Travellers Basecamp changes every year with the shifting of the khumbu icefall. Mountaineering Basecamp is on the other side of the ice and can be seen from TEBC.
The journey is the best part of getting up here. Trekking through the different villages, temples and observing how the culture minutely changes village to village, day to day.
We trekked alone up to EBC and on our way met so many wonderful people from all over the world. From former Sherpas who had summited Everest multiple times now farmers and innkeepers to small children who just wanted us to play with them. I was carrying my lacrosse gear, #Lacrosse, so I taught them how to play and left all my gear for them.
We donated school supplies to local schools and children as part of an online sharing program we signed up for through UC Davis.
The actual Basecamp was a trek in and of itself. The whole path after Gorak Shep is all ice. Somewhat difficult because you could visibly see the ice melting as the seasons where shifting (we were there late September) but the ends justify the means here as we were treated to an open sky, the rain has stopped and we watched as ice shifted and fell off of Lhotse.
