The place was hands-down my favorite lodge during my entire trek! We found it on the way up to three passes after starting from near Jiri and when we saw the adorable cafe with fresh coffee, the beautiful dining room and the stunning views from the terrace, we knew we had to stay there.
Here's my run down of it:
Great hospitality that goes above and beyond - the owner is so lovely and helpful. When we had to get up at 4am in order to walk to Lukla for an early flight, she very kindly got up and made us tea.
The rooms are clean, bright and spacious. The mountain views are unrivalled.
The washroom was spotless and the shower that I had here was the best one the entire time I was on the trail. Legitimately hot water, not just lukewarm!
The food was delicious and obviously prepared with love. One of the better dhal bhat meals of my trip, and I must have had at least 30 different dhal bhats so that's saying something. The fried potato crisp things were so insanely good - try them!
And the coffee . . . What an absolute luxury to have "real" coffee after instant being the only option everywhere else. I love that the beans are grown only a two day trek away - as fresh and local as it gets. You can even buy beans to take home!
On the way back down the mountain after doing EBC and the three passes, I was trekking through insane rain, winds and flooding. The thought of arriving back at Hilltop Lodge, being greeted with a smile and having a coffee was the only thing that kept me going at certain points that day when I left Namche 😂
If you want to avoid the craziness of Lukla on your trek, go to Cheplung instead and support this...
Read moreWhat a wonderful find! A hidden gem in the mountains. Stopped for coffee, and then another, mm so delicious! And have returned a number of times since. It's brilliant! You can sip fresh coffee and eat breakfast Surrounded by amazing scenic mountains from every angle. The owner Dayangi is so welcoming, kind and helpful. Nothing is too much bother, and she is always with a smile. She even has her own coffee roasting machine at the Lodge, and the coffee beans are all locally sourced and processed by her family. I was lucky enough to be invited for a coffee roasting lesson, of which she spent many hours with me, teaching me the processes of roasting. I offered to pay extra for the lesson to which she refused of the kindness of her heart. She's a real genuine, honest and hardworking soul. Both Passionate and professional about her business and coffee. I have so enjoyed my stay here, it's so comfortable, warm, clean and refreshing, next time I'm back I will certainly return and I am looking forward to it already. I bought a bag of coffee beans to take home with me.. and have already demolished it. Aww. I suggest you buy more than you think you'll need. You won't regret it. Highly recommend Hilltop Lodge, not to be missed, it's the place to go ^^ Thank you for accommodating me Dayangi...
Read moreI've stayed at Top Hill multiple times - alone, with friends, and with my 78 year old father. The last time I was there was 2005, not 2006, but this website doesn't give 2005 as an option. |I highly recommend Top Hill. It is at a very good location for the overnight stop between Lukla and Namche Bazaar. I used to stay in Phakding when I went to the Everest region. Then I stayed in Top Hill one time and never had to stay in Phakding again. The food, hygiene, toilet, rooms - all are very comfortable and clean. There is a beautiful view, and the construction is very sound, giving a secure feeling. They are nice people, the owners, and it is a very nice place. You can book ahead, but I have not done so. I have found a room available every time except once - when the whole lodge was booked up by monks for a funeral service that was going on next door to the lodge. When my father stayed there, it was good that they could accommodate him on the lower level, since the stairs were harder to manage with his arthritis. ||-Madeleine Martindale MD|Volunteer physician in Nepal and...
