This is one of those places in the world that you have to be there to understand how it feels. No words or pictures can describe the euphoria you experience waking up in your hotel room looking at Mount Everest and other majestic mountains, glowing up from early morning sun right outside your window. You get a rush to see more and get out there, even though paradise is right outside your window. You then run out of your room and go to the rooftop viewing platform reserved for in-house guests. What you see is literally breathtaking: you are surrounded by beautiful snow capped mountains all around you. And these are not just any mountains, these are the among the tallest and the most spectacular peaks in the world. You also see lush green mountains with beautiful little villages nearby and you really you are in the middle of it all. Matterhorn Glacier Paradise or Jungfraujoch viewing platforms in Switzerland absolutely cannot compete with what you see from Hotel Everest view. ||||A big part of the magic of this place is its people. All the staff are really dedicated to making sure you are comfortable and able to enjoy the experience to the fullest. I was particularly impressed by a staff named Buddhi Bahadur Rokka. He was so passionate about the mountains that he explained the detailed story of every single peak and every single ridge of every mountain I was looking at. I had never met anyone who had so much knowledge and passion about the Everest region. I thought he was the mountain expert for the hotel. To my surprise, he told me he is just a maintenance guy! He has my utmost respect.||||The most difficult aspect of your visit to Hotel Everest View is getting there. Hiking 3 days from Lukla is the fun part and only way to ensure you don’t get altitude sickness staying overnight at this altitude. The worst part is dealing with the helicopter companies that fly you there. In my experience, helicopter tour companies in Nepal are run by the most corrupt, unethical, untrustworthy, and outright criminal organizations. I was supposed to fly out of Kathmandu airport that morning and was told to be at the airport at 7am. When I got there and called the contact person, I realized they didn’t give a damn about me. I had to call them so many times to just get someone to let me inside the airport. It was a chartered flight and they didn’t issue tickets, someone from the helicopter company was supposed to escort me into the airport. After waiting for more than an hour, one extremely rude and disrespectful person came out told me to follow him as if he was doing me a favor. Then they wouldn’t tell me anything and just told me to literally shut up and wait while they kept flying helicopters with other people.||||After talking to other people and some tour guides I realized a few things. Costumers that have already paid for the flights were the lowest priority for them because they already got the money. They always make those customers wait for hours and treat them horribly. They go after people that have been stranded at the airport first and extort extra money for “emergency flight “. Their second priority is “rescue flights “ which I realized is a huge insurance scam and a very lucrative business. I won’t go into details but you can google “Nepal Helicopter Insurance Scam” and learn how that works. ||||Even after such an stressful start, I enjoyed the trip because as soon as I landed at Lukla airport, the hospitality of my guide Mr. Damber made me forget how I actually got there.||||To experience the magic of Hotel Everest View you must stay overnight. There are drones of day visitors who go there for lunch only and they experience a crowded touristy place but that is not what it is. Outside the busy tourist lunch hour, this place is absolutely peaceful, gorgeous and beautiful. This is a...
Read moreSonia at Everest View hotel arranged a private helicopter around Everest, with a landing at the Goyko Lakes at 16, 500 feet, then dropping us off at the hotel to stay for two nights. The flight was smoothly organized from Kathmandu to Lukla to the hotel then back to Lukla and Kathmandu. To say the flight was spectacular is an understatement. We saw where Basecamp had been but has since been removed we saw the route to the climbers took and the phenomenal surrounding mountains. ||The greeting of the helicopter by the manager and staff was welcoming. We were greeted with warm towels and hot lemonade and then that view. You see it is remarkable in the photographs but it is more moving when you were there. The view from the hotel is a dream. Being at 13,000 feet and then seeing the surrounding mountains from 26,000 to 29,000 feet, 30 miles away, is daunting. Lingering and seeing it from the cozy warmth of your bed is such a wonderful way to be in the mountains.||As others have stated the hotel is cold. But the staff do the best they can with space heaters and heating pads and double quilts so that your stay can be comfortable. Just ask them and they will provide a solution. ||The morning is kind of crazy with all the hikers coming in for breakfast but they are in their own area and you can have the peace and quiet of your room, your private outdoor area, and the observation deck. || But the day hikes from there are lovely whether you choose to take a trail or just go cross country. If you go cross country around on the grounds you can get away from the chatter of the people. If you can stay two nights the first day you can get a sense of how you deal with high altitude and then the second day you can go for a day hike. The hotel might seem expensive, but when you think that everything has to be helicoptered in and that you have saved three days of hiking to get there it seems like a small price to play. And after the morning, with only 12 rooms, you really do get you enjoy the quiet and the changing light and amazing fact did you are on top of the world. Sonam Sherpa is a remarkable Manager dealing with our needs; he and his staff really are there to help you from advice about day hikes to dealing with the altitude sickness or the cold, to dealing with a sprained ankle — they take care of everything and really make you feel like a...
Read moreThis was probably an excellent hotel in its heydays but is way past and dated. Definitely not worth the money paid and most definitely not a 'luxury' hotel. The rooms looked tired and badly in need of renovation. The extra duvets provided in the room smelled musty and we could not sleep the first night. This was corrected by the hotel after our complaint the next day and we slept better the next night. The rest rooms in the lobby area was pathetic. The service provided by the staff where they are prioritizing their convenience over the paying guest is not acceptable at all. Things like asking us to have breakfast by 8 AM as they would be busy with other guests coming for breakfast after that. It was probably divine intervention that the next day due to weather only a few helicopter flights were able to bring guests for breakfast. When asking for hot water in the room as the thermos was not refilled the 'manager' asking me to recheck and look in the thermos to make sure it was not refilled (of course I did that before calling in the first place). When we asked the waiter on the portion of a certain dish and we were not sure, I asked him to bring one plate of a certain dish and that we would order another if required his reply was that it would take time and difficult to make the same dish two time so better to order 2 portions in one go. The only good thing about the hotel was its location and views and the person manning the gate who was very helpful. Better for a day visit than an overnight stay. Alternative for view of Everest would be MLN Kongde and much...
