We love the Hotel Waterfall!!! Such an amazing place to stay and with fantastically warm and friendly hosts. The short version is if you’re thinking about it you should just go ahead and stay here. Our only regret is we stayed here the first night (more on why that makes sense below) and it set the bar too high for other lodges on the trek!
If you are hiking without a guide, or you have one but they let you pick where you stay, this is a great choice. It’s makes way more logistical sense to stop here on the way up the EBC (instead of the closer Phakding which makes your 2nd day way longer/harder) AND on the way down (instead of the crowded and touristy Namache Bazar where it’s hard to find accommodations and makes you later getting into your last day in Lukla). Most groups stop elsewhere because guides/agencies have contracts with hotels, not because they make the most sense or are the nicest accommodations. We started pretty late (11:30) on our first day because of delayed flights and breakfast in Lukla and still had plenty of time to get here. You’ll want to get the first day with cobblestone paths, lots of poop from miles/yaks, and the honestly more “boring” part of the trail behind you for the challenging climb on day 2.
Logistics aside, this lodge is incredibly comfy and in a stunning location right by the large waterfall and river. It’s so peaceful to fall asleep hearing running water and wake up to the balcony views of the valley and sun rising behind tall mountains! Beds are very comfy and all amenities were included in the cheap nightly rate for us.
Food is very fresh and I highly recommend the Swiss potato dish for any meal (my husband had for dinner and I had for breakfast the next day). The meat curry was also one of the best tasting dishes we had on the trek - Pumpkin and tomato/egg soups were super fresh from veggies directly from their garden and different than the exact same menu you end up getting at most lodges on the trek (after 19 days eating the same things you will get bored of them, promise).
We loved staying here so much that we pushed to walk down from Dole on the Gokoyo Lakes route with my hurt knee (12+ miles and a lot of vertical) just to get to stay here again… if you’re considering, go for it! You won’t...
Read moreNo doubt, we felt this lodge like a little home during the trek. Clean and cozy facilities, good food, and above all, a lovely family vibe!
Between Phakding and Monjo, perfect for resting after the first leg to Everest Base Camp, cutting down the distance to Namche. Totally worth taking a break here.
Spectacular views under the legendary Thamserku peak.
Thanks for the hospitality. We'll meet again :)

Read moreI always stay here when going up and down to Namche. Perfect half way post. Beautifully built and located next to the waterfall. Sweet little rooms that are super cozy and as other people are mentioning—nice family vibe! I also recommend the Waterfall as a good alternative to staying in Phakding or Monzo. But don’t take my word for it—check it...
