Disappointing Stay at De Weelderik – Needs Serious Attention (Villa 16)||We recently stayed at De Weelderik in Hengelo (Netherlands), and while the pre-arrival communication via their AI system was smooth and informative, unfortunately, almost everything that followed was a letdown.||First impressions matter, and sadly, ours were not good. As soon as we entered the park, we were greeted by overflowing bins and unsightly bottle banks positioned right at the barrier. The surrounding greenspace looked unkempt and messy, far from the tranquil, well-kept environment suggested in the marketing.||The accommodation itself had several issues. Privacy was lacking, with the layout and positioning of units offering little separation from neighbors. The private sauna had a poorly fitted door, making it difficult for the room to reach a decent temperature — which defeats the point of having a sauna at all.||The pool in the villa was very small, looking more like a plunge pool than something for actual swimming or relaxing. On arrival, it was dirty and required over an hour to clean, which was a disappointing start to the stay. Given its size and state, we hardly used it.||One of the most frustrating problems was a wasps’ nest somewhere in the property. Over the course of the week, we removed more than 100 dead wasps from inside the villa, around the window, air vents, and even from on the beds (we kept the air conditioning low to help reduce the number). Despite raising the issue, including notifying them that I had been stung, management didn't take it seriously. They acknowledged the problem and even hinted via email they might do something to make up for it, but after our stay, they ignored all further communication. Frankly, they should have moved us to a different villa immediately and properly handled the pest problem before letting anyone else stay. I pity the next guests in Villa 16 if nothing has changed.||They took a 250Euro deposit at time of booking to cover any breakages/damages, etc, which was refunded, but the lack of follow-through on their promises left a bad taste.||On-site facilities were underwhelming. There’s a small "honesty shop", but it’s overpriced and poorly stocked. While the sports facilities looked decent, no one was using them, possibly due to the overall lack of atmosphere on site and/or engagement from staff. Speaking of which — despite promises that we’d be met on arrival, no one was there, and the staff largely ignored us, except when they absolutely had to speak directly to us to address the wasp situation.||The location itself is quite isolated, with no decent shops, restaurants, or bars within walking distance, and very little helpful information provided by the accommodation to orient new guests. The advertised smart technology turned out to be little more than basic air conditioning and light control — not exactly cutting-edge.||Overall, De Weelderik has potential, but right now it feels like a place trading on appearances without putting in the work to deliver a quality guest experience. Until they seriously improve property maintenance, pest control, customer service, and transparency, I would not recommend staying here, especially...

Read moreWe had a fantastic family holiday at De Weelderik, where even two teenagers were super happy. The pool was great, pleasantly warm even late at night on some colder evenings. The private sauna could be used as either a Finnish or an infra red one. The chalet was comfortable and had plenty of room for a family of four and our Labrador. The sports courts and equipment that could be borrowed were fun. Very quiet site, sustainable and a lovely location with some nice little towns to bike or drive to for dinner. The Clubhouse had basic items you might like such as ice creams, drinks, delicious croissants and pain au chocolat to bake in the chalet, which was fine as there are at least two good supermarkets in Hengelo Gld. We really enjoyed a very relaxing and tranquil family holiday and would definitely...
