Sporthotel Iselmar Lemmer — Hotel in De Fryske Marren

Having become accustomed to great customer service throughout the Netherlands our arrival here was marred by the frosty receptionist . We had arrived by bicycle for one night as part of our tour and on checkin we were told that the restaurant was fully booked and asked in a somewhat condescending manner ‘have you not made an advance reservation?’. Having not logged into the hotels WiFi I couldn’t honestly recall. The unhelpful receptionist suggested I speak with her colleague in the restaurant. This I did, he couldn’t find a reservation for us either. However he did say he would have a table free for 8pm so we reserved that. Had the weather been fine we would have ridden back into Lemmer! The hotel is about 2km out of the town. |After a shower I discovered we had indeed made a reservation and showed the receptionist the confirmation email from her colleague Chantel. I was then given a story that all guests are sent an email informing them that just because they have made a dinner reservation does not guarantee it! Really? An apology would have been so much more well received! |The irony being that ‘Chantel’ informed us that we’d have to dine at six rather than seven due to staff shortages! |We then went to the restaurant where it could be seen that there were two tables free which the unhelpful and defensive head waiter informed us were pre-booked. We were seated in what can best be described as the corridor. However, within a few minutes a further table became free and we were invited to take that. |The meal itself was OK but honestly you could pay less for better food (and service) elsewhere.|By the time we had finished our meal the two “Reserved” tables still remained unoccupied.|Our room was fine but how this hotel can claim to be 4* is beyond me. Good stay actually. We had family room with harbor view. Amazing view and calm. A big safe is inclusive in our room. Very positive.

What is the only negative point for us to mention is, the location of all the electric sockets on the wall is really bad-designed and non-practical. There is no desk or table near the sockets mostly. So we need to cook water with the water kettle (inclusive in the room) near the TV.

Breakfast was not so great, very little of choice for vegetables, only tomatoes and cucumbers as fresh vegetables.

The fitness room is small and with not good airing. The swimming pool even worse in regards to fresh air. We could not find any possibility to open any window. A lots of Chlor in the water. My eyes were feeling ached after some minutes under the water.

There is a table tennis table in the middle of the hotel on the first floor. However, the cleaning staffs in this hotel seems not to understand that in order to play table tennis, you need some space around the table. They just put their shelves on wheels just very close to the table tennis table. Since they are cleaning very long time, on one Monday, they are still at cleaning till around 3pm, so we could not really enjoy the playing even in a sport hotel. We pushed the shelves a little bit away, but then they pushed them back and just walked very close to us as we were playing unnecessarily.

We have visited a few sport hotels, the owner of this hotel needs to educate the staffs to gain more idea...

Decent 4-star.||Above average: room sizes (huge, large bathrooms with separate jacuzzi and shower). Friendly staff. Good service for rental bikes. Nice pool, with sauna and 2 jacuzzis.||Average: meals. Dinners okay though limited menu; b'fast cannot really judge as due to the last phase of Covid rules they have a policy of buffet b'fast restaurant solely for the (many!) outside guests using the marina, and room service for the hotel guests. As a room service b'fast it was okay.||Below average: maintenance is sometimes showing the aging. All 3 taps in the bathroom took minutes to get the temperature right. Also due to the combination with a large party hall it does not sound advisable for the weekend in normal times, unless being kept awake until midnight is normal.
