This is a true sanctuary. A week here to reflect and relish quiet, stillness and the natural beauty that is everywhere you look was all that I could have wanted ..... including the staff that provided a friendly chat when I needed human interaction, useful local knowledge for walks and the Aotea track (stunning 3 day tramp), but who also respected I was primarily here for solitude. Orama exemplifies the best type of modern Christianity: faith based in love and respect of all living beings and our earth, very down to earth and full of humor, acceptance and grace. I feel there is a tangible and very grounded value system underpinning the whole operation which meant I could relax on multiple levels. The " chapel" meetings I attended were full of love and humor, very human and very simple, a gathering for mutual guidance support. I felt welcomed on every level for exactly who I am and needed to be in this week out of my normal life. I felt very held by whole experience. Thank you to the land, the staff and all the beings of this very, very...

If you are looking for a getaway that is exceptional AND has a beautiful little bay to canoe and then fish, all on the same day, then Orama is...
Read moreI often stay at Orama when I’m over for fishing trips, and it’s become my go-to spot. The location is unbeatable - right on the water with easy access to great fishing grounds and incredible views. The accommodation is clean, comfortable, and well set up for a relaxing stay after a long day on the boat. The staff are friendly and welcoming, and the whole place has a really calm, community feel to it.|Highly recommend Orama for anyone visiting Great Barrier Island, especially if you’re here to fish or just unwind...
