Kathrine and Hugh could not have been better hosts, they made me feel like a house guest rather than a visitor with every interaction. Their home is a charming old farmhouse that is spotlessly clean and incredibly cozy. As others have noted, the bed is beyond comfortable, and combined with the quiet and darkness I got two of the best night's sleep of my life. Kathrine cooked up a full breakfast each morning, including homemade ingredients from their farm.||The farm itself is a great place to explore. They have beautiful gardens, there were sheep roaming about in the pasture below the house, and there's a steep trail up to a nice waterfall if you want to take a twenty minute walk. One note for future visitors: when you first arrive there isn't a lot of signage indicating you've arrived at a B&B, so heed Kathrine's directions, and if the gates are closed you'll need to open them (and then close them behind you) to get to the parking area in front of their house.||The hosts here are the epitome of friendly, hard-working, down to earth humanity, and I'm glad to have gotten a chance to...
Read moreNot sure where to start. It was one of the highlights of our holiday in New Zealand. From the moment we arrived to a warm greeting from Katherine who showed us to our room to the moment we left was spectacular. The setting is so beautiful and quiet, the room was spotless and the bed was one of the most comfortable I've ever slept in. At night it's so dark that you can't help but have a good night's sleep. We had an early start the next day and Hugh and Katherine were already up to make us breakfast and coffee. We had a lovely chat with them over breakfast and Hugh helped us load the cases into the car. All in all it was perfect. If you are looking for somewhere to stay in akaroa then look these guys up you will not be disappointed. Only sad bit was we couldn't stay longer. Thanks to Katherine and Hugh for a lovely stay and delicious...
Read moreLying in the outdoor bath listening to the bubbling creek and birdsong whilst staring at a huge wall of greenery is a truly special experience. The hut, though small was well appointed with everything we needed and more. There were home-baked biscuits, herbal teas, woollen blankets to wrap around ourselves on the deck in the evenings, bacon and eggs to cook up on the BBQ, and a pincic set for fish and chips at the beach. The only possible downsides (which could be upsides for some) are no wi-fi or TV in the hut (wi-fi is available at the main house), an outside toilet (in a small shed next to the hut - slip on shoes are useful here for night-time loo trips), and the need to drive into Akaroa township. Kathrine is lovely, and her blackboard-written suggestions for the area spot-on. I suspect...
