PineLodge — Hotel in Bay of Islands-Whangaroa Community

Pine lodge is under new management. If you are looking for traditional comfortable New Zealand “Bach” style accomodation this is the place to come! It is situated up on a hill surrounded in native bush just 10 minutes from Paihia, it is extremely peaceful at night with all the owls and night sounds( have to watch those mozzies though!) it’s a short walk to the bike track that leads into Opua on the old train track. The staff were very caring and went the extra mile to meet my needs. The rooms were very clean and the shared kitchen has a really nice community vibe, everyone was very friendly. Pine lodge would suit families, larger groups, seasonal workers, cyclist on the cycle track or anyone that has left their accomodation to the last minute. We highly recommend this motel to those interested in exploring Northlands and Bay of Islands who don't want to break the budget and want 3 star relative comfort.|-the bloke at reception was super super friendly, informative, and relaxed. Top bloke.|- the pool was such a pleasure, not heated but when we went it was available all night and nice size for us. |-the view from the outdoor table area was really nice, some rainforest and water as well. ||- the room was a little stuffy, most people slept with their windows open and a mozzie net to let air in. The bathroom got very humid after showering. If you like to stay in filth...this is the place to stay!!!||||The communal kitchen was an absolute disgrace. Food left for days down in the plug hole.||Utensils still with food left on them. Tins of food, roar fish left in fridge. Never cleaned out.||This place was not at all sanitary. Rooms were smelly with a whiff of B.O abound.||Lazy staff were more interested in playing video games or watching 'soaps' on tv rather than coming to attend to guests. ||||I thought foreign hostels were bad enough but this lodge takes the cake.||Definitely not worth the $$.
