Dusky Ridges is one of the most beautiful places I have stayed and our favourite place in NZ!. It is quite simply divine in every sense!.
We arrived in the evening after 4 days of hiking the spectacular Milford Track (and staying in the DOC huts) with our 2 teenagers, knowing that Dusky Ridges would be a nice place to relax for 4 days, and to explore a bit more of Fiordland. It wasn’t just nice. It was spectacular!
The drive into Dusky Ridges from the main road is breathtaking. It’s honestly like out of a movie set - the mountains and lake are a backdrop to lush, rolling farmland and then a beautiful house, apartment & chalet.
It is only 5 minutes from the township of Te Anau but when you are at Dusky Ridges it’s so scenic and tranquil, you feel like you are so far away! The only noise you will hear are the animals and the birds. Whilst we were there, Win’s adorable, quirky selection of much loved, friendly farm animals included 2 alpacas, some beautiful woolly sheep, a very tall goat, some baby goats and deer who we all helped feed & pat.
Win and Henrik were so genuinely warm, friendly and hospitable. Win’s freshly baked bread and home baked goods (along with a very generous selection of other gourmet provisions) were absolutely delicious and devoured by our family each day! And Win’s attention to detail and care in providing a beautiful and comfortable place to stay with absolutely everything you could want (plus more) was so appreciated by our family.
The apartment itself was perfect - spotlessly clean, spacious, light and airy, warm and comfy, stylish and just such a lovely place to relax before our next adventure in NZ.
There is so much to do in the area as well. It’s such a fantastic place to explore Fiordland and do day hikes etc or just to relax after completing one of NZ's Great Walks and read books. Dusky Ridges is a beautiful and unique farm stay. We would...
Read moreMy family (2 adults and 2 children) stayed at Dusky Ridges for 2 nights in March. Win greeted us on arrival and showed us our apartment. The apartment is lovely, nicely decorated, updated, clean and big enough for our family. Win baked us fresh bread and a yummy chocolate brownie that we enjoyed on arrival. The grounds are gorgeous with views of the lake. We wandered around the grounds and Win and Henry introduced us to the animals. The animals were very tame and interactive and my kids loved feeding them and playing with them. A treat was when Win’s grandchildren visited and played with my children for hours allowing my husband and I some time to chill. The provisions included a basket full of snacks, eggs, bacon, sausage, yogurt, fruit, juice, coffee and more fresh baked bread. It was more than enough food. The B&B is located just a few minutes drive from town. Both Win and Henry went above and beyond to make sure our stay was comfortable and fun. We appreciate all the care and thoughtfulness, they put into their home and farm. Dusky Ridges was our favorite Bed and Breakfast on the trip. We miss the animals and peacefulness and definitely...
Read moreBeautiful views of Lake Te Anau and the mountains beyond. More sheep than we could count, with cows, deer, goats, alpaca and a little chicken family greeting us throughout the day. |My husband and I stayed in the chalet and Win has the accommodations appointed to a standard among the best we’ve experienced complete with breakfast provisions including fresh baked bread. Henrik gave us a small walk around of the farm to meet the animals and offered insight to farming on the South Island. It was early summer - the first week of December- so the lambs, calves and fawns were an extra treat. |The location is fantastic- quick drive down to Te Anau, the lake and a jumping off point for plenty of hikes and other excursions. We had flown into Milford Sound from Queenstown earlier on our trip but the couple in the apt made the 2 hour drive up and back in a day. We were nearing the end of our time in Aotearoa so we had scheduled this portion of our holiday for pure relaxation. We got that and then some. |Win and Henrik are charming, intelligent and friendly. We had a wonderful time here at Dusky Ridges and would be more than happy...
