We ended up calling it Faulty Towers. Ok, so it's situated across from Ocean- and large public access and parking lot- noisy at night (we experienced during weeknight). Room was tidy with modern furnishings & ocean view (tidy enough but could have been cleaned much better) although ensuite was cramped into corner of small room (door opened to bed) and little fridge was on fritz which we needed to keep our food cold & it was hot out & Bluff is closed for eating food there and nothing at this end either, no plunger coffee and towels were just thrown on rack crinkly and hard- just off a clothes line. No one around to check us in- or out- we had to repeatedly call numbers to get assistance. Restaurant is not attached, rather on another property across. We had to book ahead but upon arrival it was quite empty. Oyster Cove Restaurant reputed for seafood, were out of the oysters we wanted to order. Also, our server did double- duty of checking us in finally the day before at hotel. Had only one basic breakfast in the dining area in hotel- so-so, view made up for it. On day 2 we were just about to leave on 'shuttle' to ferry and that turned out to be the only person we saw actually working at hotel- her boyfriend's funky car which could not take all 5 of us in one trip. He also was doing double-duty and would have to take us on his dock job break much earlier than our ferry departure. In the end we declined and just drove in our rental car (which we originally preferred to leave at Hotel for the day) . And prior to departing to Stewart island/Rakiura, we were surprised by the hotel wanting to shift us out of the seaview room we were booked in, to another room at other end and whilst we were away they would transfer our belongings! I said No- we just settled in and I don't relish the idea of others touching my stuff- especially /personal & valuables, let alone all this at last minute. We met others who also experienced the lack of staff and frustrations waiting after long drives to get here- and to top it off 2 weeks after our trip to Lands End Hotel, I discovered the hotel charged me double- $530 NZ twice- which I am having a difficult time seeing credited back. My review in a nutshell: It would be a nice hotel if there was competent management/experienced staff who could attend to the basic but all too important details. Truly over rated B&B. Presence of knowledgeable staff would be a huge asset. But I guess the people come as it's the only b&b hotel place in town. Not recommending- when we return to Rakiura we won't be staying at this hotel. Very...
Read moreThis is a small hotel with 6 rooms only. The problems began at check in. The woman at the desk spoke barely any English (she was trying her best) but other guests were becoming frustrated at being unable to get answers to simple questions. I was asked to point at my name on a list to be allocated a room. The only word spoken were “Name?” and “Breakfast” while she pointed at a sign giving breakfast times. I had to work my own way out to my room - luckily it was a small hotel because I didn’t see any directional signs.|I was in the “Private suite” which consisted of two connected bedrooms with the bathroom coming off the second. In the entrance hallway was a locked door labelled “store room”, or something similar. The windows weren’t huge but gave a view over the sea. The bed was comfortable enough. The surrounds were noisy during the day time but quiet overnight.|Breakfast the next morning was likely my worst ever hotel breakfast. There was a jug of orange liquid that tasted of sugar and industrial solvents. I doubt that it had any connection with a fruit of any kind. I requested a poached egg, which was a foolishly optimistic choice. If it had been cooked any longer it would have burned. It was dry and rubbery. It was served with half a slice of toast with a slab of butter on it. One bite was more than enough.|When I was leaving I packed up my car before handing in my key. I went to check my room for any forgotten belongings and it was already being cleaned. Efficient, I guess.|This was not the worst place that I have ever stayed. Should you choose to visit Bluff (which I wouldn’t recommend) you will at least get...

Was hard to do work as the little table in the cupboard was not that sturdy. There is a lounge area with fire place that can sit and talk with others. Would...
