Our welcome was outstanding. Our host was aware of who she was expecting and was friendly and welcoming. If we wanted something, a word to the owner sufficed, and appeared (including getting the TV to work for a couple of old techno-dunces). And a sweet little note welcoming us personally. Both days.||||The owners moved just as lockdown happened. Before that, the complex had been empty and neglected for some years. And it shows. There are a few things to change and some parts still look neglected.||||But some of the touches already show that there will be a delightful place, when the reno is finished. For example, I loved the fish theme on the walls, that carried through to the coffee mugs. (There's a thought ... the koura unit, the kahawai unit, the kina unit ... )||||We travel rarely. Booked one night here for $160 via booking.com. Accommodation in Kaikoura tends to be more expensive than in other areas. Because it's well-known as one of the most popular holiday spots in the country. Kim showed the best hospitality including a handwriting welcome card. Room was super clean and cozy. Has well-refurbished kitchen but no stovetop which was ok. We could bear with traffic noise as it's on the main road. Also, it's far from the main area and beaches but not a big deal. The only problem we had was a disgusting odour coming in the room probably from public toilet right across the road. tried to open the rear door instead of opening the front one but the backside of the unit was an auto junkyard. Always disappointing to report a bad experience - I hope the owners take note and get their act together. ||The Good: |- Clean room, good shower||The Bad: |- we booked and paid for king studio with one king size double for 2. We were provided with queen room with standard double bed with two other singles. No explanation, redress or apology.|- Broken front patio door lock | notified to reception.
