Braeside Farm Cottage, Oturehua — Hotel in Maniototo Community

A wonderful oasis when cycling the Central Otago Rail Trail. Phillipa's place here is fabulous - beautiful location, immaculate tidy cabin with quality furnishings and linens, well-supplied with everything you need, airy for a warm summer day, good heating for the colder nights. Dinner is included, and what a meal! Phillipa is a former chef and it shows - dinner was delicious, simple, tasty, made from fresh ingredients, and plentiful. I'm sure it varies nightly, but we had great chicken leek gratin, salad, roast potatoes, and a lovely sticky date pudding with butterscotch sauce. Cabin sleeps 6 with a large shared bathroom. Everything was super clean and well presented. If you have the time, try to stay two nights, or at least get here by 3-4:00 to hang out and relax. Wished we would've had longer here. Truly marvelous....

This was a real highlight of our rail trail accommodation and amazing value for money. Phillipa and Al were awesome hosts and Philippa's food was just so delicious (her homemade crackers with the cheese platter were outstanding actually). This was the only stop during the rail trail where a cooked breakfast was provided so we made the most of that. All the rooms opened onto the deck and were cosy, with comfortable beds, and all the necessities thought of. We were transported by Philippa to and from the farm and the gear we didn't need overnight was all stored securely in Oturehua. We stayed a night here while riding the Otago Rail Trail. It was our stand out accommodation of the five night trip. Everything about this place is perfect. It's on a lovely site that looks out to the hills, bush and sky beyond and can see the lovely night sky. The accommodation was modern, homely and very comfortable. Phillipa has thought of everything to make it just like home. A lovely nibble platter welcomed us and the meals were devine and generous. Phillipa drove us back to Oturehua next morning to collect our bikes and carry on with the trip. The service is spot on and this would be a perfect place to spend a weekend and visit the...
