We stayed at Peters lodge on our 3rd night on the Otago Rail Trail. We arrived in Hyde and were left with clear instructions on how to pick up one of Peter's Vans which you would need to drive back to the lodge in Waipiata. It's about a 20 minute drive. ||||The lodge is charming, lots of character and straight out of a book with it's design and location. We were the only ones booked to stay that night so basically had the whole house to ourselves, just the 2 of us. ||||The Kitchen is fully stocked for breakfast and there's even some delicious home made bread nice and hot. As the communal areas are shared, there were 2 bathrooms with toilets. The bedrooms can get a bit chilly, but since we visited in Feb, it was perfectly fine with the Oil heater. The lounge has a heat pump.||||You can use Peter's car to go down to the Waipiata Tavern (5 min drive) for dinner if you wish. We got a takeaway so we could enjoy it in the lodge with a movie.||||Peter was very welcoming and had a nice chat with us before letting us feed the sheep and watch a beautiful sunset. He made us feel very welcome and comfortable during our visit.||||Would definitely recommend staying here if you're...
Read moreMy daughter and I stayed at Pete’s Farm on our last leg of the Otago Rail Trail. Pete was the perfect host. He picked us up from the pub, organised the overnight stay of our bikes and offered to bring us back for dinner. Pete gave us a history lesson of the area and the community. We visited the family farm close by and met some of the woolly family members River, Sky, Pepper and Salt. Not to mention Flossy the Jack Russell. The cottage has so much character and history. We were fortunate to have the place to ourselves. It was clean, comfortable and really homely. The breakfast options were many. Pete made us his yummy signature homemade bread. He is the perfect host, great conversationalist, super friendly and gave helpful advice about the Trail. He is a salt of the earth Southlander. You can’t go past Waipiata without meeting him and staying at the Farm. We highly recommend it and look forward to staying...
Read morePeter was the ultimate host, welcoming us and showing us around the property. He had even baked fresh bread for our breakfast! The property is a wonderful example of an era passed, but maintained in a way that keeps its authenticity, yet still remains a comfortable and enjoyable space. The views are fabulous and the sound of farm life is the only noise you hear. We were traveling by e-bikes and the ease with which we could charge our bikes was greatly appreciated. Peter provided us with a courtesy vehicle to get to the local pub for our evening meal. I definitely recommend it as a great...
