Lovely house in a great location but... Took dogs as agreed, kept dogs in kennels/kitchen as requested. During week, were told hot water was ok, but just to keep an eye on the boiler and to turn off if looked like smoking or burning (i.e. fire risk in house with lots of kids). One cupboard fell on a 6 year old boy, thankfully without injury, and we then found another highly unstable cupboard. One drawer in kitchen wasn't working. An outside bench collapsed when being sat on including an elderly lady (quite normally sat on, no violence, not excessive number of people) ||After all that, when we left, we were accused of keeping the dogs in the house (quite emphatically false). We were accused of breaking the drawer (we left it out as we mistakenly thought they would want to know) and blamed for the bench (we hadn't complained as no injury done, so could be chalked up as unpredictable). Something about a stain on a carpet (possibly true? had several kids there so couldn't say). Didn't acknowledge that they had nearly severely injured a child. Basically, they kept a load of the deposit for completely spurious and invented reasons and left a very sour taste that completely spoiled...
Read moreOur stay at Greenhill lodge was the best night we had in NZ. We came across them by chance when frantically googling for same day accomodation before a wedding in the Hawkes Bay and were so pleased that they had space for us. Steve and Charlotte are so hospitable and it was such a dreamy stay. I’ve never stayed in a BnB before and was a bit nervous that it wouldn’t feel private but Greenhill really feels like a chic hotel and Steve and Charlotte live in a very seperate area to the guests.
The home itself is beautifully decorated, with lovely toiletries, coffee making, ironing board etc in your room. The beds are super comfortable and the house is so quiet so you will have a wonderful sleep.
You get to choose a welcome bottle of wine from their fantastic collection and the breakfast was outstanding. It’s such a beautiful spot to enjoy a glass of wine, you can even do so in their lovely hot tub, or wander the gardens and visit the alpacas. They have a wonderful collection of cats and dogs who are also charming to say hello to!
I would say you need a car to stay here, and then you can go and explore all that Hawkes bay has to offer.
We hope to...
Read moreWhat an incredible find! Don't let the lack of online booking dissuade you from staying here- it's an amazing place with truly wonderful hosts. Charlotte and Stephen were so welcoming to the four of us (2 couples), from chatting about their journey to Greenhill, to sharing local recommendations, to amazing homecooked meals (definitely take them up on daily breakfast, and you have to eat dinner in at least once!). We felt very at home, and there were no shortage of spots to relax and soak in the beauty of Hawke's Bay. All guest rooms open to the front porch or the back courtyard, they're spacious and well-appointed, with modern bathrooms and homey touches. The billiard room is especially fun, as was the pool area (complete with cedar 2-person hot tub). We loved meeting all the resident animals (alpacas, mini ponies, goats, dogs, cats), but guests with animal allergies should be aware that a few of the fur babies are indoor pets. I wish we could have stayed longer, Greenhill would be the perfect place to get away from it all for an extended visit to the...
