Kauri Villas — Hotel in North Island

We stayed at this accomodation with our tribe (2 adults, 3 children (12, 4, 2). We live in a rural country setting in Auckland so our family is very familiar with free range chooks and welcoming cats and enjoy the privacy of been more isolated. We stayed in the family suite (magnolia suite) and booked using booking.com We have often found it is important to check the accomodations personal website as it provides much clearer insight into the sleeping arrangements than what booking.com provide. We decided very last minute to visit a sick family member close by and so we did not follow through with our usual booking rituals for this booking, the photos of the stay looked absolutely beautiful so we went ahead and booked anyway. Booking.com does not clearly state that the family suite is a Bed and Breakfast set up! So if you’re after a private setting I don’t recommend using booking.com but to go on the kauri Villas website and select their self contained unit. I’m saying this because I’m not a fan of Bed and Breakfast stays and when i’m in a country style setting I prefer much more privacy. However! I was pleasantly impressed by my experience at Kauri Villas, the charm outweighed my previous expectations. I disagree with some comments about the food been basic, it was a REALLY nice breakfast with great service and presentation. We felt so spoilt, my husband even joked and asked if the owners could come to our place. The amount was plentiful and the scrambled free range eggs were exactly that, organic (fresh lay) a perfectly rich protein breakfast! This place has all the old Villa appeal and the breakfast set up reflected this. It’s winter and so not the ideal time to be using the swimming pool etc and been a short stay we did not have much of a chance to appreciate the stunning views, so what really got me to the 5 star rating was the games room! Great entertaining space. Extremely well set up for weddings etc. We’ve stayed in various types of accomodation over the years, hotels, air bnb’s, appartments, chalets etc and over the years of having children we realise it’s never a 5 star anywhere for us unless it’s family friendly. Simple things like a box of toys! This is located in the games room. But what was extra special about this family friendly stay, is that often our 12 year old has only the tv or a device for entertainment. Here it was plentiful with preteen/teen/adult entertainment, she learnt to play pool on the pool table, absolutely fantastic * Overview: Facilities in the suite- Bed & Breakfast facility. No microwave in suites to warm baby bottles etc although friendly owners allowed use of their microwave to warm a bottle. No Kitchenette, just tea making facilities and a beer fridge. Spacious lounge area, comfortable couch, plenty of blankets, single sofa bed in area (perfect for our toddler) Private lounge has a closed off door to the Bed & Breakfast area, so can hear the noises of both spaces, but this did not cause us any bother, the self container units would be a better option if you are sensitive to this. Entertainment- Great indoor/outdoor entertainment for all ages! SKY!! Hubby very happy watching the 1st test of New Zealand vs Australia rugby game and children were entertained by kids sky channels on a good sized TV screen. Also, there was the option to ask owners for a Chromecast device. Good FREE wifi was available. Bathroom- small, no bath, no windows but a fan. Very good shower with detachable head. Bedrooms- Room 1- Queen bed- comfortable good quality linen, soft mattress but very comfortable. Heating adequate. No ceiling fans or a/c Room 2- good quality linen, x2 very comfortable single beds, adjoins in between private lounge area and Room 1 in suite. No heating in this room, however it was a small room and my daughters commented on how warm the bedding was. Accessibility- very adequate and was able to park easily right next to the suite. We had the most wonderful experience at Kauri Villas! From the moment we arrived, the warm hospitality and attention to detail made us feel instantly at home. The property is absolutely stunning – peaceful, beautifully maintained, and filled with character.

What a perfect introduction to the New Zealand country side. Kauri Villa was the first stay after leaving Auckland. Driving up the road to the house, we were blown away with the views. Andrea, our host greeted us and already we knew we should have booked more nights.She showed us to the Camelia Cottage which had a large stocked kitchen with everything you could need, a living room, and bedroom all beautifully decorated. It truly is a charming cottage.The bathrobes were especially soft and cozy. There was an outside barbeque, a barn complete with all kinds of games, a basketball hoop, and a bush walk on the property. The property is gorgeous! We did the short 1k walk on the property, past the sheep.
