Knapdale Eco Lodge — Hotel in North Island

We were fortunate enough to stay at the Knapdale Eco Lodge for two nights during our four week holiday in North Island. The Lodge is a luxurious property set in extensive grounds. Built by Kay and Kees from mainly locally sourced materials it is the perfect place to relax after a day’s sightseeing.||Our hosts made us feel very welcome from the moment we stepped through the door. After taking our suitcases to our room we joined them in the kitchen while Kay was preparing the evening meal. Kees produced a bottle of local wine for us to share and we were able to spend time learning about New Zealand, the local area and most interesting of all the forestry industry.||On our second night Kees took us for a walk around the farm and the forest which he has been planting for many years. We “helped” round up the sheep, fed the pig and met the hens and ducks before climbing through the forest for a stunning view of the surrounding countryside. Kees has an extensive knowledge of forestry and it was fascinating to listen to him talk passionately about the subject.||After our walk we joined Kay, Kees and a friend for our evening meal. I was fortunate enough to visit this lovely lodge in December. I went with a group of people forc clay bird shooting and dinner. We were greeted by the lovely host and told a bit about the beautiful place and told what to expect when we went clay bird shooting. Our host was very professional and helpful. We walked across the farm to shoot and then walked back again for dinner. We had drinks and entrees outside. The seating and views were wonderful. It was hard to tear ourselves away to go inside for dinner. Our host lit the outside fire for us and the atmosphere was amazing. We had a fantastic stay at Knapdale Eco Lodge. The room was spacious, clean and totally comfortable with a beautiful view of the farmland. Knapdale is a very nice and peaceful place, where you can really relax. The breakfast was just great and dinner was awesome. Kay is a fantastic cook. An absolute highlight was also the walk with Kees across the farmland with all the animals (sheep, cattle, swan, ducks and of course the dogs) .
