Excellent value for money. Very clean and tidy - classic 1960's/1970's vibe. Nothing fancy but everything worked as it should, and very comfortable. Plentiful hot water and great shower. Small but functional kitchen. Fine rural view from the back window. OK - so there is plenty of road noise. And the occasional train too. But strangely enough I didn't mind it. Sort of added to the charm. Tiger rug a hidden highlight

Overall a pleasant place to eat and drink. Plenty of room nice and toasty with the fire going. There's a free pool table if you fancy a game and an old piano if you feel like playing a wee ditty! The dinner meals are very nice and filling. Not an extensive menu but not bad either. The breakfast (all day big breakfast) is the only choice. A bit pricey for what it is at $20 - city price but not a city breakfast.

The room had peeling ceilings and mould in the bathroom and in these photos there’s a blood stain on the bed and dead cockroach in the heat pump and opened carton of milk in the closet I’m not impressed

My colleague and I booked were booked in for a two night stay via our admin team. As soon as we got there, the female owner, Jenny, instantly asked us if we were the ones who had booked with xx agency. From there it went down hill. She complained about past issues with payment that they had had trying to reconcile payments. After a 5 minute rant, she begrudgingly showed us to our rooms. ||We advised that we would like to book in for dinner and we had a guest joining us. We specified charge back but she looked at me like I had two heads, and I ended up paying with eftpos. My colleague questioned her, and she got extremely defensive and referenced the 'past payment issue'. She ended up storming out, and her husband who was cooking came out to try and smooth things over. He reimbursed my eftpos transaction then and there. ||She did this IN FRONT OF OUR GUEST! In all of my time, I have never experienced such behaviour (and both my colleague and I have travelled around the globe!).||When it came time to pay, the husband, who is Australian, and who from our small talk knew that we were Maaori Researchers, asked the following question: 'Is it true that the Maoris ate the morioris'. ARE. YOU. SERIOUS?!!!!! ||We are absolutely disgusted by the behaviours of these two disgruntled and unhappy moteliers who had previously told us that they had brought the motel and were now regretful. ||My advice - sell up, and move out. Unfortunately you were unaware that we were both BORN in Taumarunui and have strong ties and connection to the community. ||And whats the best way to promote or demote your business, via the kumara vine.||||disclaimer: we know that the owners up to the early 2010s were awesome. please come back and take this over...

I think it’s really important to leave a bad review when completely necessary.||||After a long day hiking we checked and settled down for the evening. We got to bed around 11pm when we noticed the bedding unfortunately hadn’t been changed, there was blood and other bodily fluids all over the pillows. Pretty disgusting! But as it was late and we were exhausted we got our pillows from the van and slept in the bed anyway and thought we’d mention it in the morning when we check out. ||||We saw one of the owners in the morning 8:30am and showed her the pillows and she was obviously embarrassed. She went to tell her husband. She then came back and proceeded to insinuate that we had done it ourselves as her husband said he’d changed all the beds and become very rude asking us to leave immediately after already agreeing to a late check out of 11am. Her husband then came to speak us and we explained the situation. To cut a long story short, we asked whether any compensation would be made and we were met with personal character accusations, aggressive behaviour, intimidation and where told we were getting a good deal on the room and we should be thankful for that. When I tried to close the door after I asked him to leave, he put his foot in the door and forced he’s way back in demanding we leave immediately! Outrageous behaviour.||||All in all I would suggest checking bedding as soon as you arrive and if you are to complain don’t expect good customer service. It’s a real shame when experiences like this happen and I wouldn’t like anyone to have to experience this, so just give this place a miss. Hopefully the owners will reflect on how they handled this and...

I am shocked to read previous reviews and wanted to share an honest review with others - I would NOT book here.

On arrival we were met with major roadworks outside which obviously cannot be avoided but a quick email or message to notify wold have been appreciated. We booked here as the photos were appealing and offered great facilities including a balcony and restaurant with entertainment such as a pool table and bar, however on arrival when we enquired about the bar we were told no that no longer exists. The stairs to our room were rotting and moving below our feet, above the bed in the main room had mould and was peeling away and the so called balcony that cost extra - no way would we step foot on it as it was way too dangerous.

We immediately returned to reception for a refund and moved to a different location.

The lady who worked reception was extremely rude before getting the male to speak with us. He then apologised and verbally understood our situation, called us later to confirm our refund of all nights, however he then later messaged and change his mind stating he would only refund 2 nights, with abrupt responses to our concerns stating the building was compliant in 80’s and that we were ignorant. We have been staying in many different locations across our trip and have spoken so highly of the others but this place should be...
