My husband and I got married at Makoura Lodge and spent the entire 3rd weekend in September out there with all of our closest friends and family, I can honestly say I don't understand why engaged couples would get married anywhere else. Makoura Lodge, Kimberley, Chris and their staff are second to none.
Kimberley not only dealt with but was 10 steps ahead of all of my late night emails with irrational requests and ideas (there were a lot), she brought out the wine when my photographers flight was cancelled the night before, she helped and prompted our stand in MC through the whole wedding day when our original was unable to attend unexpectedly. Makoura staff helped us set up the reception area the night before (such a help!). Kimberley made getting around photos in the rain the most fun experience! Prawn platters and bubbly in the middle of a woolshed in Apiti was my idea of a perfect day - they really pay attention to the details! I could go on for hours.
The cabin by the river for our wedding night was a gorgeous little get away, so quiet and beautiful scenery to wake up to! Our family and friends loved staying at the cottages and cabins also, having the accommodation so close was such a treat!
Thank you all so much for playing an enormous part in making our wedding day the best day of our lives! We can't recommend you and your beautiful venue enough, we're already thinking of excuses to come back and stay!

Read moreStayed 2 nights as a big group for a wedding. Unfortunately some guest had brought their own alcoholic beverages Bar manager was very rude to alot of the guest. Even some that were abiding by the rules including myself. Very unprofessional the way she addressed the issues. She made some feel like kids when we unknowingly entered through the lodge hall through the wrong entrence where doors were open and we had been lead through that way when we first arrived. Her management style was very dictatorship like and treating which was very unnecessary. Very expensive drinks $8.50 bears including pints on tap. Rooms were OK. No oven or cook tops and any rooms. Just microwaves. Probably 1 kitchen sink per block which if you didn't know the guest that had a sink you are forced to fill the kettle for your bathroom. Scenery was stunning and upkeep was very tidy. Take your own rubbish away with you besides a small bin in the rooms and recycling. Doesn't help if you are forced to use the bbq to cook anything hot apart from in the microwave. Would have been a 1 star if not for the other staff who were very lovely to deal with. Unfortunately I would not visit again based on...
Read moreMakoura Lodge is an amazing wedding venue that offers a blend of natural beauty and rustic elegance. As a wedding photographer, I often need to leave a venue for off-site shooting. In this case, Makoura Lodge has it all with walking to no less than 5-10mins distance per location. The stunning surroundings hills/valleys provide a perfect backdrop. While the lodge itself features warm, inviting interiors I will just have to say the staff at Makoura Lodge are known for their exceptional service. Kate Bryant who is the Makoura Lodge Event/Manager is absolutely bliss to deal with - accommodating and affable with incredible attention to detail and not to mention along with the lovely staff at Makoura Lodge (thanks Hayley, Sarah + Luke). With ample space for both small and large gatherings, Makoura Lodge creates a magical atmosphere that makes events/weddings truly memorable. Overall, it’s a fantastic choice for couples seeking a romantic and serene setting. Thanks team! I look forward to seeing you all again in the...
