Matamata Country B&B — Hotel in North Island

Stayed here for one night after visiting the Hobbiton set nearby. Lovely area. Wonderful hospitality! Kylie was very responsive and provided a thorough guidebook with recommendations for the area and tips for the space ahead of time. There was a physical copy of it in the space as well. Very well equipped with the comforts of home. Clean. Wonderful fresh homemade bread, cookies, and yogurt, as well as farm eggs, honey, fruits. We loved perusing the vegetable patch. Had everything one could need! Beds were comfortable, we were so cozy that we delayed our start in the morning to enjoy the space a bit more. The bread was so tasty that when the two of us couldn’t finish it for breakfast, we packed it in our takeaway containers from Osteria from the previous night’s dinner, to have as snacks on the road 😅 thank you for the wonderful setup! Comforts of home are much appreciated when on a long trip like the one we’re on. A hidden gem in beautiful Matamata. Our host Kylie was incredibly friendly and so understanding for our last minute accommodation needs! The property was spotless, tastefully decorated with luxurious details. The breakfast was amazing, freshly baked bread with heritage hen eggs (!!) An abundance of cereal choices, raw honey, milk and juice 👨‍🍳😘

Thoughtful details such as universal phone chargers, indoor fluffy slippers, netflix and bath robes made the stay a home away from home. Luxurious details like Aesop bathroom essentials, Dyson hair dryer, Royal Doulton bedding and a Breville coffee machine makes this feel like a resort getaway.

We've already recommended this beautiful spot to family and friends for their visit to New Zealand. It's about 16 minutes from Hobbiton, just over an hour and half from the Waitomo glow worm caves and Rotorua so this is the perfect place to have as your base while travelling around this side of the island.
