We had been strongly advised to avoid driving through Auckland's peak traffic if it could be avoided. The Information Centre in Rotorua told us of this gem, that fitted the bill perfectly. It is in a quiet area, in open farming country, close to the famous bird-watching area. It has cabins & chalets as well as sites for camping & caravans. Our chalet was very comfortable & had a double bed, plus a 3 decker bunk, as well as full cooking facilities & a large area for sitting, dining etc. The B&B has a small shop that sells basic food items as well as wine & beer. It has a large communal hot mineral spa for use by guests. An adjacent and larger public spa has a stall where eat-in, or take-away food is available. Run by the effervescent Ellie Vette, we were treated to a lovely cooked breakfast each morning, and to a glass of wine and some great story-telling in the evening upon our return from a day spent exploring the beautiful surrounds. What a fascinating and charming hostess she is - and so helpful with her suggestions on where to go and what to do from local dining and farmers markets to nature trails to the abundant marine wildlife all on her doorstep. She has an answer to just about any question you could ask of her! We will definitely be returning - still so many amazing bush walks to do and glasses of wine to be enjoyed at the...
Read moreEllie our hostess couldn't do enough for us. When we arrived we were shown our room and left to unpack. Then we met in the lounge for coffee/tea or wine. Comfortable bed and very peaceful location. Parking available. The bed was comfortable and very clean as was the towels. The cooked breakfast was great, as was the museli and yoghurts. In the evening you got chance to chat or watch TV (your choice). Then to bed and get between those crisp clean sheets. Tell Ellie what time you want breakfast and it will be ready. 10 out of 10 for hospitality and cleanliness....
