This is the message I sent. No reply 3 weeks on.

Thank you for your follow-up email and for acknowledging the power outages we experienced during our recent stay.

While we appreciate your gesture and the plans to upgrade the park, I wanted to share some honest feedback about our experience. Unfortunately, it fell short of expectations in several ways, and we left quite disappointed. In fact, we seriously considered not staying the second night.

A few points we feel important to raise:

We were unaware that the accommodation was a double-wide type unit rather than a purpose-built building. While we are open-minded travellers, the overall presentation didn’t reflect what we had anticipated. The furnishings were mismatched and inadequate – there weren’t enough chairs or plates for our group, which made even simple tasks like mealtimes more difficult than they needed to be. The playground and surround was in poor condition and essentially unusable, which was particularly disappointing as we had children with us who were looking forward to enjoying the space. We also hadn’t been made aware that there would be ongoing works around the park during our stay, which impacted the atmosphere and overall experience. Sadly, nearly every aspect of the accommodation and facilities fell short of what we had hoped for. That said, I would like to acknowledge that we were warmly greeted on arrival, and I found your manner to be friendly and welcoming. It’s clear that you care about your guests and the park, and we genuinely appreciated your hospitality. Please know that this feedback is not a reflection on you personally.

We don’t often write with complaints, but this holiday was particularly underwhelming. As we do not plan to return, I would appreciate if you would consider a refund for one of the two nights as a gesture of goodwill. I believe this would be a fair outcome given the circumstances.

Thank you again for your time and consideration. I look forward to your...

we thought it was a lovely place at first to stay for my birthday...however we turned up with my dog...and there were dogs everywhere..after paying for the room the ladies on desk and the cleaner saw my dog and lt me know i need to keep him on a leash. Upon leaving the angry rude owner started attacking and accusing us of trying to deceive them by sneaking the dog in the room and he thought i hid the dog when he came over but I never hid my dog. He started saying we trashed the place which was a lie we tided it and I took photos,,he said we were con artists for sneaking the dog and we should use common sense that places do not let spets stay...when there are pet friendly places all over nz that I have stayed at..look at petsonthe net so why is it my fault ...his staff didn't tell me ...we paid an extra $50 because of their mistake and also got extreme abuse he threatened to pull my hair and escort me out of the room if i didnt stop talking loud as he refused to hear our point of view... the abuse was disgusting with him threatening my boyfriend..he told us we were awful because we cooked and that was against regulations...however the hob was in the cabin... and i think he does not have common sense..he just kept screaming his staff do tell every person about the dogs not being allowed in the cabins and he refused to hear we were not told..he screamed do not dare come back..it was just a terrible experience..as we really did think it was pet friendly and he twisted us into being these villans out to hide my...

A family of 5 had a 2night stay (Waitangi Weekend) in a TIDY 2 bedroom motel, everything you needed was in this unit. Yasss! Plenty of space for a family of 5, you have a double bed in Room 1 and 4 single bunks in Room 2. We also had a fold-out single bed in the living room.||If you have young children, hire the trike - It's a neat way to get them to explore the holiday park to meet and make new friends around the campsite.||Well maintained holiday park, and very peaceful. Short drive to Sunset Beach and the Maraetai Beach reserve (Sand dunes). ||Awesome food truck just a drive down the road, however, our holiday was ruined by the 1-hour bad service from Sunset Takeaways food truck, situated at the entrance of the holiday park, and NEVER AGAIN will I spend my money here. (Bad service, no apology just a smart remark from the owner).||Awesome service at PWHP, wonderful ladies at the reception! KEEP UP THE AWESOME WORK to all the team at PWHP!||We look forward to our next stay at the...

We stayed for 2 nights on a powered camp site. We had our large dog with us which was so nice to be able to camp with him too. The staff were wonderful to deal with and the grounds are lovely. All the basic amenities you need when you are camping and wanting to get away from it all! An easy walk to the sand dunes which are awesome fun! The beach is walkable but in the heat it is better to drive as it is a fair way. The only let down is the price...but this seems to be the norm with ALL camp grounds in NZ. $20/person/ night. So for myself, partner and 2 teenage kids it was $80/night just to camp plus $5/night for the dog. Just crazy for a patch of grass...Better off booking 2 campsites next to each other and have twice the room for the same price! Camping has definitely got expensive here! But it won't put me off...not yet anyway 😉

Nice camp ground. We stayed in a cabin, unit 6. We booked last minute over the phone just before they closed so the office was not open when we arrived. The reception lady was really helpful and accommodating. She left the key out for us with a map and even highlighted directions to the cabin, and we paid online through their email link. The cabin was basic with a private ensuite. The couch had a couple of stains and looked well used and the heater was a bit small so it didn't do much in the way of heating the cabin. The oven did a better job. The bed was comfortable, staff were friendly and professional and check in and check out was easy.

Matthew and his family were very accommodating, the park is well maintained, and the surrounding region is gorgeous. Carroll makes food in a trunk near by the entrance to the park, her burgers are gormet style. If you're in the Port Waikato area and need a place to stay, some hot food, and want a near by gorgeous beach, this is the place to stay. Also, for Tolkien fans, the Weathertop Hallows scene was film near by, you'll have to drive up a very high hillside to spot it, but it is worth it.
