Yurt with Heart - Hosts with Even More We (two locals from the Bush) stayed 2 nights at the Pūrangi Garden Yurt in early December 24 making the most of the Mautohe track opening (definitely worth parking in the new carpark for $10 and taking the easy farm 30-40min walk to Whanganui-A Hei, at sunrise). Really loved every aspect of our stay and the only reason why Location is not 5 stars is because that would be perfect and there's always room to improve and in the middle of the day, the Yurt can be a little bit hot. But that does not detract from such a great place to holiday with a very spacious big centre room, too much room for 2, you could easily fit 2 couples or a whānau-family. 2 x spacious comfy Queen beds, so much colourful comfy linen, outdoor table surrounded by sweet smelling honeysuckle, great furniture, tv (not that we watched it), books, magazines, local information, access to a lots of stuff to cook with, gifts of fresh avocado (yum), grapefruit, oranges, clementine and fresh herbs) a clean big shower with lots of omph, fresh flowers everywhere lovely wooden floors, amazing smelling honey suckle, a location to celebrate especially the manu (tui, korimako, ruru, piwakawaka, as well as parots, magpies, and a few pesky squawking pheasants - slug gun could come in handy for the trigger happy pesk controllers). Sue and family are awesome. Even Cosy the American Bull Terrier is a cheeky friend partial to the smells of anything cooking on the outside barbecue. Definitely good value and so close to everything. We also loved swimming in the inlet at the close by reserve and recommend you take up Sue's guidance on this. We will be back and wholeheartedly recommend. My personal view is the value was more than accomodation in Hāhei which was more expensive - upwards of $100-$200 per night more on average, hot and thus much less...
Read moreWe stayed in Purangi Garden (ie., yurt) for the holidays. We truly had a great time. We were able to go by the beach -- there were free kayaks to use; had a fantastic walk around the gardens and lastly -- done astrophotography (the sky was clear and there were lots of visible stars - might even have seen Comet Leonard). We really needed this time to relax after a very stressful year and being in lockdown for so long in Auckland.||||Thank you very much, Sue & Rod, for your generosity and warm hospitality - the beautiful flower arrangements in the yurt and the fruits waiting for us on the table - yummy avos and sweet plums. The bonus of getting those cute, little succulents from Sue to bring home with us to Auckland was such a lovely gesture. ||||The conversations we had with Sue and Rod were warm and thoughtful. We appreciate you guys looking after us whilst we were there. You guys feel like family to us having visited Purangi Garden for the 6th time now (4x in the Purangi house and 2x in the Yurt). ||||Have a wonderful, safe and healthy 2022! Wish you all the success...
Read more2 nights in Purangi House was not enough we realised once we settled in, the home, gardens and surrounds are so peaceful and tranquil. The views are stunning and you can sit on the deck for hours looking out at the bay and listening to the crash of waves and the tui’s feeding in the trees, it’s sublime. The house had everything we needed, ample space with 3 bedrooms & a large open space downstairs with more beds. The only thing a large group might want would be an extra bathroom if 10 of you were staying. |There is a short stroll down the property to the beach along with a running creek, it’s so beautiful!|The house is situated in a convenient short drive to so many bays, Hahei, hot water beach & cathedral cove which we got to see in our short visit. |The owners were lovely, leaving fresh flowers in every room, the fireplace ready to lite along with fresh fruit & supplies. |If you are a gardener you will adore this house & it’s sprawling, beautifully maintained gardens, so many plants!|Stay much longer than we did, there is so much more to discover. |I can’t wait...
