My cousin and I stayed for four nights in the West Hut, which was advertised as self contained, it was semi-self contained. Wasn't very welcomed at the property as Kylie wasn't there for our stay. ||||I would strongly recommend not staying here, as it is very expensive for what you get for the price.||||Culturally inappropriately:||The only water supply to fill the jug in our hut from the small toliet sink, which is not okay. ||||Health and Safety:||The bathroom was very rustic, with small shelf above the sink. As me and my cousin are both tall, it was hard to brush our teeth where you had to be careful you didn't knock your head.||There was a step down to the bathroom where you had to be really carefull and was a bit wobbly. ||There was no smoke alarm in the hut and no information in the hut specifically on a poster on the wall what to do in an emergency. ||||Lack of self-containment features:||Upon arrival after a long trip, found the tea, coffee and sugar and jug. There were no cups and spoons to use. Had to find these at the bunk house. There was no plates and cutlery in the hut we stayed. There was no dishcloth to wipe the benches down with.||||Had a fridge and jug but that was it.||Had to do all the cooking in the bunk house, very small kitchen, one sink for 18 beds. The kitchen didn't cater well for self catering We didn't purchase meals because they were expensive.||||Other issues.||Concrete floor was cold with just a few mats on them.||||There were no flannels with the towels.||||Free self guided walks were marked well and directions not clear in the folder. When we found the walk to the picnic table, it was a really steep grade to walk, as I have mild airthithis in my back, I couldn't walk it. In the website, it needs to be noted , you need a modrate level of fitness to get to the picnic table and see the views.||||Glow worm walk, couldn't find a torch that worked so it was safe to walk it.||||Advertised as an amazing shower, pressure not great and sometimes the water was cold.||||There was no laundry facilities on the property, had to go to Marton to do our laundry, which was inconvenient for our stay.||||It was a basic cabin with a rustic ensuite and should of be called semi-self contained in the website.||||There was no guest book in the West hut, found information in one folder for the whole property.||||So, it was a nice spot with great views just overpriced along with the above...
Read moreI’ve been a tour guide for some 6 years staying all over nz in various regions and various types of hotels, motels, villas but I can assure you even I was remarkably surprised at this beautiful rustic oasis nestled in the turakina valley called the farm stay ||||Upon arrival we were greeted by the owner Kylie and she introduced us to the bunk house and it was like steeping back in time with beautiful memorabilia littering the walls of old times, good times and pictures of her family through the generations and it was described by one of my passengers as a place that has soul.||||She was a gracious and very accommodating host showing us her wonderful vegetable gardens and strawberry patch and of course for those sunset hunters or early rising enthusiasts for a sunrise there’s a short walk up the hills to welcome in the day ||||The bunk rooms had everything one needs, a kitchen, lounge and what I would call the selling point a beautiful covered outside deck as my passengers soaked in good wine, laughter and stories of old times ||The sleeping arrangements my passengers found were warm, comfortable and peaceful.||The toilets and showers are situated outside a few steps away from the house itself.||||Your choice of accommodation can also be discussed with Kylie as there are a few other options she has situated around her property!||I was given a quaint hut with en-suite and was consumed by the charm of the place.|| ||Our tour group sat down on the picnic tables on the veranda of the bunk house as Kylie served dinner and my passengers who are of older elk found it to be absolutely scrumptious with compliments coming from all of the passengers as well as me ||As well as dessert was a slice of caramel cake with freshly picked strawberries and yoghurt it was again met with compliments to the chef ||||So if you desire to get off the beaten track and indulge yourself in the countryside then you need not go any further.||||Thank you Kylie for the wonderful evening and looking after my passengers, we hope to see again on a...
Read moreWe took our 5 year old twin grandaughters to Rangitikei Farmstay for two nights. It was a great way for two children who live in the city to experience NZ farm life. Our hosts could not have been more welcoming and hospitable, they made us all feel really comfortable and relaxed from the outset. Their little girl was absolutely wonderful, she helped the twins plant sunflower seeds, (which they got to take home😀) how to make flower necklaces, and played games with them when it came time to be inside. The twins loved every minute; the pony ride, meeting the dogs, looking for fresh laid eggs and clambering down the hillside to entice the sheep to eat the food which Kylie provided for us to give them. It could be useful for others to know that we visited in Winter and for very good reason (due to fire risk in the lovingly restored old farmhouse) cooking can be done on the sheltered BBQ on the outdoor deck, but on a short and cool Winter evening it was lovely to have a home cooked meal prepared by Kylie made with farm fresh ingredients; and it was totally fine also for us to take our own ready to heat meals, using the microwave or fry pan. We were provided with fresh farm eggs to cook for lunch, they were divine! Our accommodation in the West Hut was beautifully fitted out and cosy. The precious memories made from an experience such as this cannot be measured. One we hope to repeat...
