Weโ€™ve just come to the end of our three night stay and it was absolutely incredible. We stayed in a self-contained cabin that very easily fit our family of 7 and had a beautiful bathroom and kitchen area. If we needed a full oven the communal kitchen was right next door however, we did have two cooking elements in our cabin which was perfect for us. The park facilities were great. The kids loved the playground and spent ample time there. The pool was lukewarm so too cold for us to swim at this time of year but one of our kids did have a quick dip to try it out and he had fun. The camp is right on the shores of the beach which is absolutely stunning. I woke up early one day to watch the sunrise over the beach and then did the Southern Loop walking track through the bush and farmlands with stunning coastal views along the top. The start and end of the walk is at the entrance to the campground which is amazing. We didnโ€™t have any luck with fishing but the weather wasnt great. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and will definitely be...

I was looking forward to showing my partner a kiwi summer camping experience. We turned up and asked about prices and options. There was a toilet right next to the office and I asked if I could quickly use it while we checked in as it'd been a long drive. The lady said no , and that I could only use the public restroom down the road. We stayed one night and enjoyed the view of, and close proximity to , the beach. In the morning we were packing up when a man came and banged on our door. He said it was waaay past check out time and we needed to leave right now. It was only 11am. It's not a major but the strict and unfriendly vibes we kept getting from the staff tainted our stay and put us off going back. It was such a shame because I'd heard really good things about the place and was hoping to frequent it more often. I would more recommend Ohope holiday park more, everytime we have been there the staff have been super friendly and chill. That's the vibe i personally associate with a kiwi summer campground experience and what I'd...

Do not rent Tourist Flat 1. The online photos are from Tourist Flat 2 which is bigger. We feel this is misleading advertisement as you expect the tourist flats to be similar in size. Flat 1 is too small for 3 people. Bunk bed ladder health and safety issue as you cannot get in a safe way in and out of the bed. There is no space for bags. Rat trap at back of unit. Noise during day and evening from glass recycling. In the first day there were fireworks at night. Wifi worked only intermittently on Android tablet, not on Android phone or Windows 10. Wifi so unreliable that after a while we used mobile hotspot on Android mobile phone. TV cable broken and shield wires sticking out. Had to buy rope in local hardware shop to hang our wash on. Be very careful with the kitchen hub. It looks like an induction hub but it is not. The hub stays very hot for a long time and you can see something glowing under the glass while cooking. We expected a bit more from a cabin paying almost $200 per night and decided to leave...

True kiwi "Christmas on the Beach" (although I an spending new years instead). Beach is great as really shallow for ages due to the sand bars, with plenty of body boarding waves. Huge diversity in shells to collect and Dotterel, Weka and Oyster Catchers can be spotted with their young. If you are camping close to the dunes, secure your food scraps else the cheeky Weka will take them back to its young. Hot foot it across the sand back to your site and plenty of loos and showers to go around. You prepay 10c a minute for hot showers and $4 for a load of washing but during this time there is no need to use a dryer as always breezy. Music off after 10pm as the morning sun on your tent is sure to wake you between 5am and 7 (especially if you have kids). Only downside is the access to glow worms is bit long and in the dark to take children under 9-10 considering it doesn't get really dark till about 9pm in the summer.

We stayed for 2 nights but on our way to the Campground we had a accident and our Car was not driveable anymore, so the Owners were very helpful - the took my Partner to Opotiki to buy some groceries and the kids and me could stay 1 more free night ๐Ÿฅฐ. That was so so helpful Wonderful Location, it's a dream there. Super relaxing, a heated pool, nature sounds, the beach around, you can even walk through the mudflats and collect Pippies ๐Ÿš when its low tide, Glowworm Track, lovely walking Treks, and and and ... ๐ŸŒž๐Ÿ˜Š and for kids a huge jumpingpillow (covered for hot summer days), a lovely playground and a Baby Pool for the little ones. A perfect place for a relaxing family holiday ๐ŸŒŠ๐ŸŒด๐ŸŒ…๐Ÿฆ

My favourite campground in NZ so far. Everything here is perfect, from the beautifully designed and sparkling facilities to the spacious and fabulous grounds. Excellent and helpful hosts, great fishing and the beach right beside the camp. It looks like a wonderful place for families, with the pool and playground, but also great spots for vans and motor homes.
