Te Paerahi Beach (Porangahau) Freedom Camping — Hotel in North Island

Fantastic free campground with a variety of camping sites to choose from - under pine trees or open grassy areas next to the sand dunes. Flushing toilets and drinking water available. Almost full 4G reception on spark network despite no signal for most of the drive. Porangahau township 7 minutes away has fish and chips takeaways (and fried chicken) at the dairy, a restaurant/cafe/pub/hotel, a coffee cart serving good fortune coffee (with smoothies and scones!) and a mobile veggie market. Make sure to take your own rubbish bags and take it home with you (we had to tidy some mess left by others). There is a recycling centre in porangahau for glass and plastic. Ok so this beach is the best kept secret. You have this beautiful beach that goes for miles and there are only a hand full of people in either direction. You have as much space as you want and the water and waves are just amazing. Bring the kids boards and have at it. Also the locals are one of the most welcoming and friendliness people I have met.
