Read moreBeautiful Gardens such a lovely property. However, we had a very bad experience with the owner. We got the tree top room for us and our young son which has a huge gap for stairs in the railing which he could’ve easily fell through. Explained this to the owner as i was concerned he is little and asked if there was anyway to change rooms i knew there were stairs when booking which was fine but the gap from the floor to the start of the railing was my issue. She was more concerned about us leaving her a bad rating and made it very clear she didn’t want a bad review and i should’ve done my homework.. Long story short we couldn’t change rooms after our chat we were told New Zealanders didn’t know how to parent and that my son should know better to not touch things and he needs to not be fussed over! I explained he was 18 months old and the outcome of him falling through the railing wasn’t a cut or a scratch it would be a fatal injury - not worth the risk. We were lucky enough to get a refund which we are thankful for but i would NOT recommend this place to anyone. I don’t care how bad you want a good review your attitude and lack of compassion...
Read moreI loved my time at Te Popo gardens. It is a small piece of Africa nestled into Taranaki, NZ native bush. South African NZ'ers will feel at home with the facilities, glorious life size metal sculptures of African animals and the serenity of the surrounds and have them coming back for more. Take the time to go on the short walk to immerse yourself in the NZ bush, see the plants and trees, and hear the running water of the stream as you transition through the subtropical rainforest. Take your time to smell the earth and bush and feel the temperature changes. Move quietly, engaging all your senses with child like innocence, grounding yourself in the present and the gifts of the bush. I will return with my family to explore more of the walks. Such a treasure and I applaud the vision, tenacity, friendliness and commitment of the lovely couple who keep it open...
