Vinegar Hill is a great facility, the North Toilet/Shower block is a vast improvement over what used to be there, and there is a lot of community use, with people coming and going. We stayed there for a weekend with the NZMCA Freewheelers group and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, except for a few brusied bums from trying to float too far down the river and ending up in the shallows. Great number of fire pits for use, some did have rubbish remains in them, and by the time the weekend was over the toilet blocks had started running out of paper so make sure you take some with you. Read moreAbout 3 minutes drive from the main road. Vinegar Hill Camping Ground has toilets and showers. This camping ground does not have any other facilities but huge space to set up your tents and volleyball nets. The river water current was quite strong when we visited. There were many other campers there. From mid December until 7th January you have to pay a fee but other days are free. We met some people who were staying at the camp site for nearly a month. Nicer when it's quiet as it can get really busy during long weekends (specially new year's). Keep yout things safe at night as sometimes they can get stolen. Toilets and a cold water shower.
