Vinegar Hill is a great facility, the North Toilet/Shower block is a vast improvement over what used to be there, and there is a lot of community use, with people coming and going. We stayed there for a weekend with the NZMCA Freewheelers group and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, except for a few brusied bums from trying to float too far down the river and ending up in the shallows. Great number of fire pits for use, some did have rubbish remains in them, and by the time the weekend was over the toilet blocks had started running out of paper so make sure you take some with you. Be interesting to see if it is as well used when the daily fee kicks in, and I will be back for more. The dark sky/low light pollution makes the site even more attractive for those who do Astrophotography.

Pretty good DOC style camp site. Toilets and cold showers but nothing else - bring your own soap / hand sanitiser and maybe toilet paper just in case! Lots of places to camp and the river looked nice although I didn’t swim in it. Almost no internet signal. Great if you’re wanting a cheap camping trip where you can just enjoy the outdoors.

Good basic campground with showers & toilet that have improved over the years. A beautiful spot next to the Rangitikei River and its wonderful cliff faces. Campground tends to be very busy over summer.

About 3 minutes drive from the main road. Vinegar Hill Camping Ground has toilets and showers. This camping ground does not have any other facilities but huge space to set up your tents and volleyball nets. The river water current was quite strong when we visited. There were many other campers there. From mid December until 7th January you have to pay a fee but other days are free. We met some people who were staying at the camp site for nearly a month. I do not think there are any security Cameras but it looks safe enough to camp there. The ground is hard to put pegs...

Beautiful place! Swallow are of the river is safe, however the current in the deeper part can be really strong and dangerous. Nicer when it's quiet as it can get really busy during long weekends (specially new year's). Keep yout things safe at night as sometimes they can get stolen. Toilets and a cold water shower. No internet signal. No shops or restaurants or food trucks or stands in the area. The closest restaurants are in...
