Really great campground at the half of the Forgotten World Highway. Richard was very friendly and had a short chat with us. The campground is very clean and got everything you need. For kids very enjoyable due to a modern playground and horses/chicken. The history behind the campground is very interesting as well as the history of the Republic of Whangamomona. Definetly worth the 30 NZD for two persons! :-)

Basic, clean, fantastic location, powered sites available. Dogs welcome (on leads at all times). Happily recommend taking the time to walk the area. Camp owner chilled, and I have to comment that this place reminds me of the best experiences I had as a kid camping...we would love to stay longer next time. Some interesting walks just down from the camp where our mutt could run some energy off.

I stayed here for New Years Eve with a couple of mates, there are beautiful hills surrounding the campsite and there's a great pub up the road, that serves good cider, Pies, Burgers and Veg Tagines! The campsite allows well behaved dogs. The campsite owner was a really cool guy too, must stop and have chat with him if you go! Also, there are miniature ponies up the road by the campsite!

Lovely old school campspot that breathes 'History'.

We had a warm welcome to our stay by the owner and his cat. Like the million signs on the campsite will tell you: it's cash only. But not to worry - the pub down the road can help you out.

Even though the place might look a bit old, the facilities are all working well and this place had everything we needed. You're surrounded by beautiful nature and cute farm animals.

The town is walking distance from the campsite and has great history and is a beautiful setting for photography, if that's what you're into.

The neighbourhood is quiet, even though you're super close to the highway.

Price - value is great.

All in all we recommend...

Avoid if you are in a self contained caravan. There is no dump station, nor is there any water outlet available to fill your campervan. When asked if the camp site had a water tap to fill our tank, the strange cryptic response of the person working at the camp site "it is raining". Not very useful frankly, nor was the person particularly polite. The camp site was very tired looking. The shower rooms were not heated and big gaps at the top of the walls meant that the room was particularly cold. Unfortunately, in my opinion, you should save the 30$ camping fees for another...

Hidden gem! Cool site with plenty of history around. You are surrounded by chickens, a horse and the friendliest cat ever!! (With 6 toes) The camping is 100% worth the 15$ a night per person. You get a warm shower and a kitchen with a boiler for boiled water. Nice centre on walking distance with a local pub (recommend). The spot we had was nice, clean and the grass was short. Richard does his best to keep everything as good as possible and is very friendly and fun to have a chat with! Thank you Richard! We stayed here on 18/12/24...
