After multiple glamping experiences you could say we are verging on connoisseurs of the canvas comforts. And with that in mind a five star rating probably speaks for itself in terms of the experience and service that came with our Kōwhai tent escape.

From the twin outdoor baths (that didn’t take forever to fill), to the cooked breakfast (with fresh farm eggs), to the evening spent cozied up on bean bags by the fire-pit projecting an outdoor movie onto the tent canopy….this getaway offered so many delights! I mean we’ve had plenty of s’mores before but that little unique touch from Wild Canvas offering a selection of confectionary from which to construct our fireside treats and compare made it just that little bit different (and better)!

The service was fantastic and this getaway was long anticipated after two postponements (one thanks to Covid and another thanks to Auckland floods). Normally the blissful connection with the great outdoors (without television and Wifi) is a big appeal as we love to immerse ourselves in nature. One exception might be when you’re an avid All Blacks fan and your deferred date ends up clashing with the Rugby World Cup final. Our hosts did everything possible to help set us up to catch the match live (and the decent reception made streaming from the comfort of the cozy bed possible). Considering the outcome of that final, perhaps we would have been better off missing the game altogether!

But perhaps the coolest aspect is the stunning location of the Kowhai tent. Up on a hilltop that is accessed by the Wild Canvas 4wd the glamping spot overlooks rolling hills that in the mornings are often shrouded in mist and offers prime viewing for beautiful sunsets and sunrises. Definitely on the “must...

We stayed at Wild Canvas following a recommendation from friends. They said that it was fabulous and it certainly is.

Firstly, the location is breathtaking. Having spent the day at Hobbiton, we thought we’d seen it all until we arrived at the site. Beautifully still, and surrounded by world class views that change by the minute. The site took our breath away.

The accomodation oozes class, from the little hand written note to home made bread everything had first class attention to detail.

My wife and I have compared notes and agree that the bed is the most comfortable bed we have ever slept in EVER!

The pair of outdoor baths overlooking the whole vista was something special to behold. Definitely the highlight of our stay.

We will certainly visit again. Hopefully very soon. I can’t recommend Wild Canvas enough.

A truly world class experience! Thanks to three team for providing this...

Who knew Waitomo was so magical (we didn't).

My partner and I recently ventured North from Hawke's Bay to check out a neck of the woods we had not yet visited. Of course we had planned to stay in the area in style and had booked well in advance the Kowhai tent. While I am a a keen glamper and couldn't wait to check out what awaited us on the hill, I think the overall highlight of the trip for my partner was driving the Jimney up the farm track... Boys will be boys.

But wow, what a magical stay, the baths overlooking NZ farmland, the outdoor movie projector, the fire pits around the tents glowing at night and the big plush bed that we spent a lazy day reading in - All receive a big five stars from us.

We also really enjoyed checking out the Waitomo caves before we headed home and also made a wee detour up to Hobbiton to complete the birthday trip.

There's no doubting that we...

Such an amazing experience staying here at Waitomo Hilltop! It was the perfect romantic getaway. Outstanding panoramic views which we enjoyed while roasting smores by the fire, eating provided breakfast in the morning, and watching the sunrise while we kept ourselves toasty in the outdoor baths! Great communication from Emily and Benjamin; they provided us with easy, contactless access to the site and the use of their 4-wheel drive to get up the hill to the stairs that took us up a short walk to this heavenly spot. 1 night was not enough for us, we wish we had stayed longer and will definitely do so next time we stay! Photos don't even do it justice to how beautiful this spot is- IT IS A MUST DO!!! P.S. The freshly baked bread was soooo yummy! Thank you so much Emily and Benjamin for providing us with such an amazing experience! Can't wait to come back!
