We stayed at Garston Lodge from the 12th to the 14th of September. On arrival, the atmosphere felt cozy and welcoming. My family had booked out the whole lodge for a family event in Athol, and we were able to enjoy the bar, kitchen, and all common rooms as our own. The owners were warm and friendly, joining us in celebration and sharing laughs and stories. The rooms were tidy and spacious, each with its own sink, which made getting ready much easier without waiting for the main bathrooms. If you enjoy pool, this is the place to be—the table and equipment are top notch.

History meets necessity, a cozy and clean place to stay on the trek to Milord Sound. This is the best option for arriving later in to Queenstown heading to the Sounds. A trip on the Kingston Flyer is also highly recommended.

Friendly greeting from the staff on arrival. Ordered the chicken and salad for lunch and it was delicious, would definitely recommend. Great coffee and all served with a smile.

I stayed a night in the hotel on a cycling trip around the area. The current owners are working on improving the hotel and while some aspects (decor) are yet to be tackled I had one of the best stays on my trip. Comfortable bed, plenty of hot water, access to a washing machine and line (free of charge) to wash my stinky cycling gear. The food was fresh, tasty and the baking delicious. The team provided me with a cut lunch for my next days riding which was invaluable in the middle of nowhere! Full marks for understanding what the hospitality is about and providing cheerful...

We turned up with 7 people for dinner and drinks. We were turned down on the basis that "It's not busy enough at this time of the year". Fair enough we thought, and went to leave. The strange thing was, there were 8 people inside being served and looking at the menus. We went to another establishment where a friendly chap asked if there were a group inside drinking who ignored us....yes there was...Seems that these people are more interested in looking after themselves than their patrons. Head a bit further south to Athol for much better...
