I was looking for a night away, not too far from Wellington. Hidden in the hills of the Manawatū, I discovered Kaitahi Lodge. From the moment we arrived, we were blown away.
The sleek black gates opened to reveal an expansive mountain style home, the perfect blend of nature and architecture. The surrounding landscape felt untouched, while the lodge itself radiated pure elegance.
We had received a text with everything we needed. Our room was easy to find, thoughtfully prepared, and filled with small luxuries. A kitchenette, a modern ensuite, truffles, and high end finishings that made it feel like stepping into the pages of a lifestyle magazine. Crisp linen, plush towels, earthy tones, and textures that felt both grounding and indulgent.
After settling in, we took a wander through Palmerston North, knowing that when we returned, Jazz and Ryan would be hosting us for dinner. There was this quiet sense of anticipation, the kind you feel when you know something special is about to happen.
And it was. The three course meal was unforgettable. Each dish arrived like a gift, beautifully plated, packed with flavour, and delivered with warmth. We could tell we were in Ryan’s world. One extraordinary dish after the next. The wine flowed, the conversation sparkled, and it became one of the best dining experiences of our lives.
This isn’t just a stay. It’s a moment. A celebration. A memory...
Read moreI dont think words could do justice to describe the experience we received at Kaitahi Lodge, from Ryan and Jazz, you need to feel it for yourself, but Ill give it a shot. Absolutely a treat and relaxing hideaway. An easy short drive from Palmerston North CBD, but yet secluded and hidden. The property is stunning and very tastefully decorated, whilst hidden in a picturesque green sanctuary. The accommodation is spacious and very well appointed with quality fittings and furniture. The bed is very comfortable with a selection of equally comfortable pillows. We opted for the dinner and wine pairing. Best decision, as Ryan is not only an excellent chef by trade, but in his own environment his creativity is sublime. Jazz and Ryan work together cooking, plating and presenting the stunning courses and wine. They explain each course and are extremely comfortable to chat with, whilst still giving us time to savor the tastes. We had a thoroughly relaxed and enjoyable evening, finishing with a stunning desert and little sticky in the wine cellar. The next morning Ryan and Jazz left us a first class breakfast, with a touching gift of their necterine chutney. Overall a superb find and you will not regret this one of a kind experience. We will certainly be back. Loved the complimentary truffles, chocolates and drinks, lovely touch. Thank you both Jazz and Ryan, what you are doing...

Jazz greeted us in an open and welcoming manner and we felt instantly relaxed. Our bed was very comfortable with quality linens and pillow choices, and the room had a lovely view of the garden. There was some traffic noise but this will be alleviated very soon with the completion of a bypass. The breakfast was delicious and easy to put together in our room.
The dinner was amazing. Ryan is a most accomplished chef and the gurnard ceviche was the best ceviche we have ever had, and having recently travelled to South America we have had many! The ciabatta bruschetta was also a standout. The wines suited perfectly and were unusual terroir choices that opened our palate to different Kiwi vineyards. We would have preferred a written menu to titillate our senses with our upcoming feast, and with the cost of any extras, such as sparkling water or extra wines enumerated—but that is a small detail. The dining room and common rooms are luxurious and spacious, and lovely to spend time in.
Our stay was an...
