Great location and the baches are nice and spacious. The swimming pool is small but nice to have. Unfortunately our stay was really let down by shocking service and a terrible and confusing (mostly on their end) booking process.
We booked most of the entire place for wedding accomodation and they made things as difficult as possible.
Firstly they wouldnât even contemplate any sort of group booking discount (despite booking the whole place on two weekdays outside of school holidays) - fine but a little disappointing.
Then they requested three seperate rounds of payments, and each time made some error in the amount required. Booking two baches under the same name seemed to cause an unreasonable amount of confusion on their end. Considering we had a wedding to organise at the same time they made things about as difficult as possible.
On check in they were again confused about the room distribution, and the man behind the counter even told me quite rudely to be quiet while I was trying (politely mind you) to explain that we had booked two baches. I normally would have said something at this point but seeing as I was getting married the next day I decided to brush it off.
The biggest issue was at checkout. We checked out on Friday and had tried to arrange a late checkout but they wanted to charge extortionate fees for this. So we made sure all the guests were up and out by 10am, despite having the wedding the day before and all being somewhat worse for wear. We made sure at least a few baches were completely clear by 10am to not hold up the cleaning team, with the others being vacated at about 10.15 at the latest.
As the cleaning team turned up at 10am on the dot they started very rudely evicting all the baches, despite being directed to the half that were already clear. They started bossing us around to move tables and other exterior items that had been moved the day before (we were in the process of doing so - but apparently not quite fast enough for the cleaning team). Our priority was to get the interior clear for them to start work at 10, which we did for the most part - but apparently our failure to organise 30+ tired guests to the level of a military operation was completely unacceptable to the cleaning staff.
What was sad was my new wife and I had already sacrificed any moment to take in our new marriage to get the baches clear, and yet this was still not good enough.
To be fair to them, they did try and apologise after several departing (evicted) guests complained. But combined with all the other ineptitude and rudeness it was a bit too little too late.
The icing on the cake was we were later told by another guest from our party who stayed an additional day that only one bach of the 5 in our cluster had any new guests arrive.
A very disappointing experience that soured a lot of goodbyes we wanted to have with guests who had travelled from the uk and Australia...
Read moreWe stayed here for 3 nights (2 adults and 2 teens), and wished we could have stayed for longer. We loved the heated pool, the tennis courts, the wharf, and the beautiful grounds. It was such a peaceful and relaxing time for us all, exactly what we needed. Nikki at reception was great at check-in and check-out. She is the perfect person for the job - bubbly, knowledgeable, and helpful. ||||Staying at Riverside Matakana is the best of both worlds. You get a private bach, but the use of some fantastic facilities and the bach is serviced. And so close to Matakana too! Great value for money and we will be recommending it to everyone! ||||Three days here felt longer because of how relaxing it was. We loved watching all the different birdlife and it was so peaceful at night. I don't think I've ever slept so well when away from home - partly because of the quiet and partly because of the extremely comfortable beds. We will be...
Read moreI completely adored this place. So tranquil, peaceful, and scenic. Lots of cute wildlife to see including the odd rabbit, weka, and duck. ||The units themselves have a clever configuration and bifold doors to create privacy (e.g. if you're sharing with a workmate). Lovely modern styling, all amenities, and super clean.||The beds are amongst some of the most comfortable I've ever slept in.||I used the conference room as well and it worked well for facilitation and was a breeze to set everything up. We had the most amazing morning tea, lunch (A+ salads!), and afternoon tea. The coffees and other beverages on offer were perfect. I would highly recommend it for team offsite sessions.||Michael, the owner/host, went above and beyond to ensure I had a great stay. Quite simply some of the best service I've ever had with any accommodation. The other staff were really friendly too.||I'm going to look for a...
