The West Bay campsite. DOC. A OK place to pitch up. A bit lacking on grass and tenting areas were not well cared for and flattened out. Kitchen for campers, but tiny table was a bit pathetic, only room for four people to sit. When there are benches which could have a table for another six in the kitchen, and room for a table! Kitchen not properly cleaned each day, food on floor from one day to the next, finally cleaned up on third day of visit. Quite expensive, when you think of the price of a DOC hut. Read moreVery good DOC site with very clean and new toilets and showers. Only cold water but has a pully so you can put up your own hot water bag. Also has a kitchen area to prepare food or clean your pots. We found a really nice quiet spot in the trees to camp. Just ensure you bring along your mozzie repellent for the midges and sand flies. We checked in at the DOC office near the lake as this made the vaccine pass...

Camp can be busy, and you must pre-book on line, or buy a pass at the Rotoiti Lake Visitor Centre BEFORE setting up camp. Facilities at West Bay are superb although the only showers are cold. Ground can be hard and dusty if tenting. Beach (gravel) and boat launching within easy walk from campground....
