We’re a couple in our seventies and I in particular do have restricted mobility. Our hosts Tessa and Vic greeted us warmly and introduced us to the cottage and gardens. They helped us move in. The cottage is beautiful and we had everything we could ask for. The bed was comfy, the wi-fi worked well, the kitchen was very well set-up, the bathroom has a simple walk-in shower. I will note that the path from the carpark up to the cottage is a little steep but it didn’t bother us. There’s a great view of the harbour and the cottage is well situated in regard to local attractions such as Larnach Castle, the Albatross Centre, the penguin tours and Glenfalloch Gardens. The lunches at Larnach and Glenfalloch were fabulous. We did the albatross cruise and even though we only saw one albatross it’s a great experience. One day on Tessa's advice we drove to St Clair beach which is quite awesome and has lots of cafes. We also drove into Dunedin and visited the Otago Settlers Museum, which I think is one of the best museums I’ve seen after nearly three decades of overseas travel.    Read moreThe excellent reviews reflect the care and thought with which the gentle and thoughtful hosts, Tessa and Vic, have created and maintain this beautiful oasis of calm just a short scenic drive along the peninsular from Dunedin. I couldn't fault anything and look forward to returning when we next visit. We stayed in Fantail Cottage which is utterly charming, light, airy and comfortable. It is surrounded by a garden and completely private. I recommend the 9pm Blue Penguin tour at the Royal Albatross centre and a drive to Allan's beach where we...
Read moreStayed in Bellbird cottage for three nights: loved it. The cottage was as described, hosts very helpful, hottub just excellent, and the area terrific. If you are a runner, there's a local tramp up to the castle that's a good challenge. If you are into fauna, the three tours at the east end of the peninsula are good. We've recommended this place to stay to friends and if back in the area, would want to stay here. Be aware though: sometimes spotty Wi-Fi (we used our hotspot so a non-issue) and no bbq nor oven...
