Freedom Camping Ground — Hotel in South Island

We decided to branch off at Twizel and find this place as it's not close to the main highway. We had hiked Hooker trail at Mt Cook & and needed a rest. Beautiful blue water on the lake. Plenty of room, elevated above the lake, so great views all round. Nice & relaxing at "McKenzies" it's actually called. Self-contained camping only / max 3 nights. No water / no loos. Perfect for us...

Great spot. Up above the lake, would have preferred down near the water but that's a no camping area. There's a toilet down by the lake and flush public toilets by the power station. Official comes each evening to check...

Beautiful place to camp, however the other campers were being rude and mean to me and family as we were doing fat doughnuts on our dirtbikes. They were throwing rocks at us trying to...
