Greenwood Park Convenience Store/Motel/Camp — Hotel in South Island

Don't want to be harsh, however I feel an honesty review is fair.

Firstly, the owner was great at communicating, and as we booked last minute agreed to meet us to check us in, which was great. However this is the only real positive comment I could give. The entire place is emergency housing from what we could gather. Understand COVID, housing shortages etc however as a paying guest we felt unsafe. A lot of rubbish and mess from Tennant's all over the place. Our room stunk of cigarette smell, the place was very very dirty. The fridge had cardboard underneath it to keep one side level. We paid a decent amount, walked in and walked out. We didn't request a refund as we just wanted to leave. This isn't a lashing out at the owners, we appreciate times in COVID have been hard, we are also business owners, however an accurate review is fair. This place needs work, and owners could think about whether or not it's worth having guests staying whilst they're in this period as Im afraid more reviews like this...

Absolutely fantastic Holiday Park, clean well maintained grounds that look really pretty, Clean and tidy motel rooms, awesome caravan spaces to park at, owner is very friendly and helpful and is doing an awesome job in running the whole Motel/camp grounds☺️ Great men's and womens facilities, clean and well maintained and a really great convenience store that has a good selection of goods and also sells Icecreams, a great selection of very yummy hot food at a great price and also hot coffee☺️ There's a beautiful area beside the shop under pretty trees to sit on the benches provided and enjoy the day while eating or drinking something yummy ☺️ I cannot recommend Greenwood Park higher☺️ I happily recommend this place...

I booked a camping site, but my plans changed so I had to ring and cancel. When I asked to cancel my booking (2 weeks in advance before arrival date) I was then rudely talked. He had risen his voice and got very aggrivated towards me. He exclaimed he doesn’t do refunds because it’s “peak season”, despite me giving 2 weeks notice of my cancellation. And there is no cancellation policy to refer to on the website or in my booking confirmation, and especially no rules on no refunds with it being the busy season.
