We camped here last night, and while the experience had its highs, there were definitely some lows.
First off, the highlight of our stay was the manager, John. He was absolutely amazingâwelcoming, friendly, and just an all-around wonderful human being. The facilities were clean and well-maintained, which made our stay comfortable.
Unfortunately, our experience was soured by another staff member, who we suspect was the chef. This individual was rude and dismissive, even speaking to John in a disrespectful manner. When we were packing up and needed to use the toilet, he refused, saying the cleaner would be upset, and then locked the door on us. This lack of basic courtesy, especially for guests, was disappointing.
Additionally, the food left much to be desired. Many of the deep-fried items tasted stale and unappetising.
While John and the clean facilities made a positive impression, the attitude of this one staff member and the subpar food make it hard...
Read moreWe stayed here with a large group to attend my grandfather's funeral. ||The male manager was very difficult to work with and quite rude at times, acting as if we were putting him out. ||Rooms were damp (literally dripping from the ceiling in the bathroom of one room), the electrical power sockets were dodgy and the fuses kept blowing. The bathroom door didn't close in our room.||Bed was warm and comfy and there were tea and coffee supplies in the room - when we could manage to get the kettle to boil with the power sockets.||There was continental breakfast included which had a good variety. ||WiFi didn't reach our room which was quite frustrating as there is no cell reception. ||Unfortunately because of the grumpy male manager, we didn't feel able to raise any issues at the time.||I probably wouldn't recommend staying there.||Pub food was, however, delicious.    Read moreRecommend you visit on Halloween! The backpackers is deserted, a bit "Doctor Sleep". We stayed on a powered site in a camper. The power worked, the water flowed, and there was a drain. There were no other facilities. The proprietor of the pub said we could use the facilities in the old backpackers block, but what facilities it has are limited to flushing toilets and cold showers. It has been completely abandoned for some time. It's like some weird Mary Celeste; doors hang open; leaves and cobwebs are strewn over half made beds, a pile of empty monster energy drinks in one room hints at long term occupation, but the pile of dead flies on the windowsill hints that was not so recent. A newspaper on the floor, dated earlier in the year suggests the place was only recently abandoned but the décor suggests a long decline. We used the facilities built in our camper, and...
