Iâve been coming to New Zealand for years, staying in back packers, hotels and home stays and the hospitality has always been wonderful. |I was genuinely shocked how the owner here spoke to my husband when we were staying.|When we arrived we said to the lady on reception that we had two suitcases and she said we should have received an email to say that their rooms are for people with a small amount of luggage. We hadnât received an email saying this but it seems surprising as New Zealand isnât somewhere you come for a short trip.|The room was clean but basic and quite small and we couldnât fit our cases in without clambering over them all the time. We had a shared balcony at the back with a transparent glass door straight into our room which wasnât ideal. |I went to speak to reception to see if we could upgrade but there was no space. We were happy to stay the first night but asked if we could possibly cancel the next two nights. She was helpful and said sheâd try and rebook the rooms but couldnât guarantee it. We were happy with that plan as we didnât want to be climbing/tripping over our cases. |My husband went the next day to let her know we had found somewhere else and the owner was incredibly rude to him and said to leave the following day and not to come back to reception but to leave the key in the room. We were genuinely shocked. I have never experienced anything like that in my life. |We found a great spacious room in a holiday park for only $30 more where they looked after us...

Our room was small but cosy, with a cute terrace overlooking the forest, perfect for a morning cuppa. There are larger rooms available though.
The communal kitchen was super convenient and well kept, with indoor and outdoor places to sit and eat, and even had a well kept BBQ.
Toilets are well kept and separate from the room but the path is well lit at night and itâs only a short walk.
The location of the lodge is very close to the start of the Abel Tasman track. Very quiet and surrounded by beautiful nature. If itâs a clear night youâll also get an amazing view of the Milky Way.
The lodge is very well run and looked after by Stuart, the owner, who is a great yarn. He knows the national park well and helped us with planning our walk when it went a little pear shaped. He gave good advice about day walks and ferry transfers to/from starting/finishing points too. Going to miss him!
Highly recommend this place for a comfy stay if youâre walking the...

Our cabin was small, but very comfortable and clean, with a lovely terrace at the back amidst the green jungle. It was nice to have our private bathroom and toilet.
The communal kitchen was super convenient and well kept, with indoor and outdoor places to sit and eat.
The location of the lodge is superb. Very quiet and surrounded by beautiful nature. No traffic to hear, just birds and cicades.
What we also found a great plus is that Kanuka Ridge Lodge - with only 8 rooms - is not a big place. The atmosphere is very friendly and easygoing.
The lodge is very well run and looked after by Mr. Stu (the always happy owner), who can give you all the information you would like to know about the Abel Tasman NP, with good advices about day walks and ferry transfers to/from starting/finishing points too.
This was one of the lodges we liked the most during our whole trip in...
