Choose to stay at the Hotel after a day of exploring the greater area.||Checked in and off to our room ... very old, basic and tired. The sheets on the beds were so thin - been a long time since they have been replaced, the pillow was so thin it was really a waste of time having it & no extra pillows. A heavy old bedspread on the bed.||The chairs were so uncomfortable, dirty and stained - not nice.||The TV was so high up on the wall and was really old - not a flat-screen.||The heater/ac was also unusable as it was so high up on the wall you couldn't see the controls to see what settings you had it on.||No toiletries at all - not even a small bar of soap - again the towels were well past their use-by date.||No WIFI in the room - had to go to the bar if you wanted WIFI. ||The accommodation needs a serious overhaul - expensive for very little.||||We ate at the bar and had a lovely meal ... the steak was well cooked and enjoyable. The beer was cold and much needed after a day...

Arrived at 2pm to find out doors were locked till 3pm so had to wait for checkin.||Lady was welcoming and showed us to our room. The room was very tired and needed updating. 1970s box tv on the wall so high up almost got a kink in my neck. The roof paint was peeling off and there were spiders in most corners. Furniture very old and stained. Spiderwebs around windows. Latch on bathroom window so corroded couldn't close.. Couldn't regulate water in shower. The shhets on the bed were thin and towels could be updated. The motel block was back off the road so was very quiet. Give it a good clean and coat of paint and it would be great.||Had dinner at restaurant. Fantastic meal, huge roast. Staff were so pleasant and couldn't falter. ...

Accomodation needs a lot of work. Carpet torn and looks like it’s from the 60s. Musty smell throughout the room, and a number of spiders and roaches. Toilet was far from clean, and shower curtain is so close to the toilet it is touching and cannot be moved - can’t imagine the shower curtain gets washed after each guest so that’s pretty gross. Old TV with only 5 channels in analogue, didn’t think that was even possible anymore. Kettle wouldn’t open properly and was filthy, wiped inside the spout with a finger and was just caked in brown “something”. It’s a 3 star hotel so obviously don’t expect the Hilton, but a certain level of care and cleanliness should be standard. Recommend you...

Called in for lunch on a stunning West Coast day. It was really quiet, so I had my pick of the tables. Opted for one outside in the Sun. Got a Beer and sat in the Sun soaking up some Vitamin D. Ordered a burger for lunch which arrived quickly. Really tasty and was a decent portion size. The Staff were really friendly and the prices not too bad, especially considering the remote location. Such a beautiful old building, located in what is a really beautiful part of New Zealand.

Friendly staff, great location in center of karamea. We good fish and chips here the first night for takeaway and enjoyed them so much we went and had a proper dinner the second night. Is a little bit dated but has that old school west coast country pub charm. Good selection of beers and wines and plenty of food options. We went on a very nice night and they had excellent seating outside. Plenty of room indoors if it is raining and they had a t.v for watching the sport.

Very nice fish and chips in the sun. Had the motorhome parked in the back over night, close to fishing in the Karamea river and a nice walk around the river estuary. This is a must stop if you are going to or from the Heaphy track or the Doc camp up north.
