My husband and I had a delightful stay at Kingsdown Manor, Timaru.
Mel and Greg, the hosts, were incredibly welcoming and made us feel right at home throughout our stay. The accommodation is in a beautifully restored church—a charming blend of old-world charm and modern comfort.
The accommodations were not only comfortable but also thoughtfully appointed. We appreciated the little touches, such as a bowl of freshly cut fruit, a variety of breads, yoghurt, jams, and eggs for breakfast. It added a personal touch to our stay, making it feel like a home away from home.
Kingsdown Manor's location is perfect, just a few minutes from the delightful port town of Timaru. This proximity allowed us to explore the town easily and enjoy some fantastic local restaurants.
Mel, with her local knowledge, recommended we visit Caroline Bay at sunset to see the Little Blue Penguins. Thanks to her advice, we witnessed the magical sight of four penguins surfacing onto the beach and waddling to their nests in the rocks—a really lovely experience.
In summary, Kingsdown Manor offers a comfortable, homey stay that my husband and I wholeheartedly recommend. The warm hospitality, comfortable accommodations, and thoughtful details make it a standout choice for anyone visiting Timaru.

Read moreTimaru’s best kept secret, but let’s get that secret out to the world. Definitely do not want to gate keep this place! It is stunning inside and out just like the host who is kind hearted, hardworking and passionate.
The grounds are superb! I was in awe at every turn of my head, my eyes falling in love with every aspect and layer. I got married only a year ago and while I have no regrets in life and my decision, I’m semi reluctant after experiencing all of what Kingsdown Manor has to offer. But we would love to come back and renew our vows here!
The rooms are astonishingly beautiful and unique. Such a gem I’m not a typical B&B person but this has altered my brain chemistry, I’m now on the train and never coming off. The breakfast was so good, the atmosphere included really set the tone. We sadly only stayed one night! Timaru as a location is more than just a stop over to the next destination, it should be a place to ground your feet while on holidays as it’s a stone throw away from many highlighted places and activities north, south and west!

Read moreWe stayed in the Turret Suite and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The bed was firm, which is how we like it. The location was perfect for us as we wanted to explore both North and South of Timaru.
A very well thought out place right down to a hair straightener next to the hairdryer in the bathroom cupboard! Along with a lint remover in the wardrobe next to the iron. Decor was beautifully done.
The outdoor setting and chapel would be an absolutely perfect place to have a wedding for a couple who want to have something a little more personal.
Mel is a gem. Nothing was too much trouble. Mel even offered to drop us in town to watch the ABs! Thanks for the recommendations of attractions and things to do!
Breakfast was a real bonus with a great variety to start the day off right.
Greg and Mel have worked extremely hard to create such a stunning Manor.
Thanks once...
