Really loved this campsite, ended up staying here all 3 nights in Arthur's pass. Not as busy as avalanche creek campsite. Many spots near the shelter/outhouse. One of the staff at the visitor center guided us to the opposite side of the main klondyke site, which is a gravel road which gets rougher further you go. That area is mainly for self-contained vehicles but we were told non-self contained could stay close to the two outhouses along the path. It's an incredible spot all the way by the end, being further from the traffic makes it very quiet.

The braided river near the main klondyke site dried up after a few days of rain, perhaps this is typical, I was amazed at how much it disappeared just a day after. One photo is on the first day there, another with a similar angle is on the second with almost no river left (both viewing the...

We have camped here a couple of times on the way through Arthur's Pass and for Coast to Coast. Very affordable DOC spot, long drop and running water onsite. Great spot plenty of room for tents and caravans etc. Do not underestimate the mosquitos/sand flies, they are everywhere and just want to be all up in your exposed flesh business all the time. Recommend covering up and wearing as much deet as you can find. Beautiful walk down to the river, perfect for skimming stones and...

This is the best campsite in Arthur's Pass, a great view out to the mountains is such a delight in the morning. The land is flat enough for campervan and plenty of grass for tents. It has a longdrop that doesn't smell too bad by longdrop standards, just remember to bring your toilet roll. This was our favourite place in the whole of New Zealand and can't wait to...

A beautiful DOC campsite at only $15 dollars per night. The kitchen area provided a sink, preparation area and benches to eat on (plus a water supply that you can use once boiled). The toilet seemed fairly clean and hadhand sanitizer. We parked in the little valley as there is a gentle breeze - so less sandflies! Wake up early and enjoy a beautiful sunrise oer the mountains.
