Makarora Mountainview Wilderness Accommodation — Hotel in South Island

We spent one night at this place, now known as Makarora Mountainview Wilderness Accommodation with the intention to take part in the Siberia Wilderness Experience Tour - however the tour had to be cancelled due to inclement weather. ||Rick and Kenna have created a little haven for travellers on their property with several rooms available for accommodation. We stayed in the Kea room and really enjoyed our time there; beautiful clean mountain air, a stunning view (despite of the low cloud) and far enough from the road to Haast that traffic noise did not interfere with the peace and quite of the rural environment. There is no Television and no phone reception - but for us these were no priorities at all. Kenna has a real knack making people welcome and the accommodation was comfortable, roomy with nice curtains and a great bathroom and bed - and Kenna provided ready advice where we could get something to eat. Certainly above the average quality for accommodation we have come across in the last four weeks. ...

Awesome place to stay! Everything was clean and ready to use.||||Rooms are lovely, bed was super comfy, great shower and great mountain views.||||My room was comfortable and cosy with a balcony to relax and enjoy the afternoon sun and birdsong.||||Makarora is a very nice quiet place surrounded by beautiful big mountains.||||Place itself is equipped and came with a free kitchen, which consisted all cutlery and kitchen equipment - toaster, kettle and fridge.||||The location is wonderfully quiet and means a great sleep.||||I highly recommended this place to anyone who wants to stay in a beautiful and unique location.||||Atmosphere is peaceful and relaxing. ||||The best thing about the place are the hosts. They are very welcoming, friendly and good people. If you will be nice for them then you have chance to listen interesting stories about Waitaha People-historical Māori iwi.||||TIP! We had our best nights sleep here. We were greeted by the lovely owner and showed to our room, which is a duplex behind her house. It has a beautiful mountain view from the balcony and window inside. The room is small but worked well for three of us. Kitcgenette is tiny but we managed with this fine. Everything was so clean and quiet!! The forest walk was suggested which we did and would highly recommend to anyone staying here. Took us about an hour strolling on a very well made path, we saw so many birds.
