Our stay at Kahu Cottage in Mohua Eco Park, Catlins (October 2025) was simply wonderful. The cosy cottage is perfect for two people and offers everything you need for a relaxing and romantic stay – a comfortable king-size bed, a modern bathroom and a well-equipped kitchenette. We particularly loved the terrace with its magnificent view over the rolling hills. An absolute highlight was the hot tub: sitting under the clear starry sky of the southern hemisphere, far away from any light pollution, was an unforgettable experience.
Tracy and Mike are wonderful hosts who have put their heart and soul into creating a little oasis of calm. The short walks through the New Zealand bush around the property are a great way to unwind and enjoy nature. Mike gave us some great tips for walks along the Catlin River, while Tracy recommended us breathtaking coastal spots where you can also go for lovely, easy walks.
You can feel the love for the environment everywhere – the accommodations are sustainably built and harmoniously embedded in the landscape. We recommend staying at least four nights to truly experience the beauty of the Catlins. We will...
Read moreMy husband and I are of that age where when we travel we are looking for luxury and intimate experiences (aka VIP) and we found it all here. The cottage was lovely and contained everything we needed. The property is extensive and has wonderful bush walks and amazing bird life. It was peaceful and private. Water pressure is a bit on the low side, but the beds are super comfy so that's a good trade off. We went on two of the tours offered and they were both excellent. Lyndon was a great guide full of local knowledge with a good sense of humor -and happy to go at our pace. We also enjoyed the antipasto platter on the night we arrived and were pleasantly surprised by the variety and amount (it lasted us for days). The location was a perfect spot to act as our base for exploring the Catlins area over the 5 days we had as it is basically int he middle of it all. We will...
Read moreWith so many rave reviews we'd had high hopes for this place. This property/ business was up for sale at the time of our stay.
The drive into the property was beautiful. The cabin we ended up with was nice overall, albeit dated with some efforts to modernise it. It needs some light maintenance and a decent clean. Also, the wee seat and table set back from the cabin should be replaced or just removed.
While I appreciate great views and serenity, for a few hundred bucks a night this place was well below the expected standard.
I hope that the standards are raised and the cabins are thoroughly checked for fixtures, fittings and cleanliness between...
