The location of this campground is fantastic if you love paddling, water views etc. However, I would avoid it in summer as its busy. The waterfront sites are the prime sites, the inland sites are across a main road and cars travel through fast. ||||We went off season - there was one female toilet and one male toilet available (there was a disabled toilet but if someone was in the shower then you couldnt get access to it). While we were staying the whole waterfront east was full and about 4 sites on the waterfront jetty east - so about 15 sites full. Some had families on them. One with three lovely daughters. One toilet and one shower was not enough for about 20 females. The main toilet and shower block was locked the whole time. It wasnt covid related because it requires password to access. I went across for a shower three times and it was in use. I cant tell you what the shower was like as i didnt get to use it. ||The other really bad thing was that the campoffice doesnt open until 5pm. Who has ever heard of a check in at 5pm. Its wrong when you paying good money. And its not a very friendly greeting. The facilties were clean and tidy. ||||However, we enjoyed our waterfront site and watched dolphins, seals, sunsets. We went paddling and a walk to ngakuta bay and back. We would have liked to have friends stay in the cabins but the inland area and cabins were closed and all no access so that was...
Read moreNice enough camp however I didnt appreciate that tents are forced to go up the hill to the back of the camp ground. Since when does DOC prioritise motorhomes and other vehicles requiring power by giving them prime spots! They arent too busy now so it would have been nice to be given one of these sites especially as they were more sheltered. The night we arrived we were given a campsite that seemed to cop the worst of a strong wind & had a slope big enough that careful placement of our tent was required and even then we kept sliding towards the door as we lay in bed. It appears that work has been done here to level this area however the stones and rocks used meant we also bent tent pegs trying to put up the tent. On a positive note the facilities were modern and clean however some dishwashing liquid would have been helpful. A seat has been placed up the hill and this has a lovely view of the bay. Nice place to...
