As a Tauranga based biking group (The Chain Gang) we arranged to stay at and bike Mt White Station over six days in mid March 2025. This was truly an amazing experience with incredible scenery, exhilarating ,if at times challenging mountain biking . Six of our party were dedicated mountain bikers while two enjoyed walking the high country tracks and simply relaxing and enjoying the solitude. We stayed 2 nights at Esk Hutt and 3 nights at Terrace Hutt , these are both purpose built quality accommodation units. Multiple well-formed trails led away from each Hutt providing endless e-mtb biking with a few easy river crossings and spectacular scenery at every turn. The station totals 40,000 hectares of a working high country deer, cattle, and sheep farm with the owners committed to sustainable management and development of the property while minimizing the impact on the environment. The staff were simply fabulous, going out of there way to accommodate our specific needs , from first contact to organizing shuttle transport from Cass village to Mount White Homestead and return. As we were traveling by motor homes and as the road in does have some river crossings we had made arrangements to leave our motor homes parked at Cass during our Mt White stay. Our group loved this NZ high country venture and we highly recommend it as a holiday venture destination with a difference, both for family or outdoor...
Read moreWe did not know what to expect when I booked Terrace Hut, 2 months ago. Having used Airbnb on our New Zealand adventure thus far, this was definitely the highlight accommodation for us. This visit is THE story we will tell when we get home. The 27km drive from Mt White bridge to the station had us curious and hooked. There we met welcoming, chatty Jane, and after coffee and homemade sweet things, we then embarked on an hour long Land Rover , gravel road , utterly breathtaking scenic trip to our remote loggings for the night. Jane’s friendliness and obvious enthusiasm for her work encouraged us to ask every question that came to mind. We had the 12 person hut to ourselves. You bring your own food but all other needs are catered to. We loved the wood burning fire, indoor/outdoor bean bags but most of all the utter peace and quiet except for the occasional lowing of a cow from the river valleys below us or the sound of a lark soaring skyward. We walked to a nearby mustering hut to the scent of wild manuka bushes, full of buzzing Mt White bees. If peace and calmness and a total escape from a noisy, active world is what your looking for, then I cannot recommend Mt White highly enough. Thank you Jane and Darren . (And Emily for the...
Read moreWe've just returned from our Board offsite at Mt White. Such an amazing place to take time out and reflect.
The facilities were ideal for our needs, allowing us to balance work sessions with exploring the stunning surroundings.
While well suited for groups and families, we were able to configure the accommodation so each of our team had a private room. Bathroom facilities were shared (not an issue) and the communal lounge was warm and welcoming.
The extra 40 min trip up to Esk Hut was worth it - you couldn't get anywhere more private. A simple set up, you're kept warm by the woodfire and well stocked lunch hamper!
Being a working station, we felt privileged to spend time alongside some of the team, hearing about their areas of expertise and the day-to-day operations. Whether it was touring the farm in the Unimog, going offroad in a 4WD, or sitting alongside them during dinner, this is truly a unique experience.
While we didn't quite have enough time to enjoy the biking, kayaking, and tramping, I'd recommend Mt White for small...
