Had a great time! Had originally booked for three nights with arrival on the first open day of the season, but extended with one night more. more people than I expected but not crowded, had a great time with the other campers, one of them was even playing bagpipe which was so nice :)) Great facilities with hot showers, flushing toilets, laundry facilities (I think it was 3 NZD per wash and per dry) and outdoor drying rack(?), well equipped kitchen with three stove stations and three sink stations, two toasters, two microwaves, a fridge/freezer unit and good seating spaces. Informative pamphlets and posters about the nearby walks. The hosts were so friendly and helpful, fun to chat with and easy to find on site (they were camping next to the facilities area so available 24/7). There is almost no phone signal (no signal 50% of the time with 2degrees) and even less data signal available, but drive down the road for 5 minutes and you’ll get clear signal in case you’ll need it. Price is 20 NZD pp for non powered and 23 NZD pp for powered, free with DOC pass outside of high season. Recommend to book online before arrival, select a good spot and make it easier for yourself as well as for the hosts :)) I stayed at spot 76, loved it! I already miss the place and would definitely love...

Peel Forest is amazing but the means to pay is not easy at all. We are Kiwis who have stayed at M P previously often b and were unaware payment had gone online and no cover to do so at M P. Met German tourists with same experience. At approx 4.15pm phoned number given, young lady said we were talking to the wrong person and she would transfer to the V C. She didn't, tried to call again to be told the office now closed, leave a message. What to, oh dear. We then watched a number of vehicles drive in, look at the sign for sometime then either leave or park up. It would appear a considerable amount of money is not being recieved. The German gentlemen commented 'we were used to putting money in a slot at DOC campsites.' A member of our party has a lifetime DOC pass and is disappointed to see this happening. Go Peel Forest Camp you...

Great DOC campsite. Great clean facilities. Plenty of space. Many powered and uncovered sites. Plenty of taps with fresh water around. Showers were hot, toilets clean, and kitchen well equipped and clean. Plenty of good walks, but don't bother with the short river walk from the campground. It takes you to an unimpressive stream. About 1km past the camp just after Peel Forest Church is an unmarked drive with parking where to are right on the banks of the Rangatata. It is where the Rangitata raft trips come out of the river. 1hr Acland falls walk is a...

It is an outstanding and tranquil DOC campsite with a delightful host. We really enjoyed the nearby loop walk leading back to the campsite. We could view the nearby river along the diverging path. The loop track (less than 40mim, flat ground) is well-maintained, featuring intermittent boardwalks for added convenience.
