Lovely spot. Staff friendly & Laid back 😀 Great area for fishing & exploring. Stayed 6 days 5nights. BBQs abailable for use by campers- huge bonus!! Would happily come stay again as I love the area. Camp Needs work- once a few things ironed out possible to be 5 star! Plenty of cabins & powered/unpowered sites. Needs Work also Disappointments:(1) pool not able to be used. Told every day - be ready tommorow. Wld have appreciated just being told until further notice. Sign on pool said 48hrs b4 ready- which wld have worked for ppl staying 1night, however we were there 6 days & were unable to use pool at all. 😞 . The pool is an attraction for many & for this to not be useable in height of summer- unacceptable. Hoping that this is a one off & pool will be maintained to keep it running all summer. (2) Whole time we there no soap in bathrooms. Especially important.with covid let alone normally (3) party held at function room while we were there- party was fine, thankfully, however would have been great.customer service.if we had.been warned when we.1st arrived. Also highly intimidating using toilets/showers or.kitchen while party going on as these are.areas.party guests also use. (Maybe a think about having another shower/ toilet block away from function room for camp guests to use when functions on)??? (4) kitchen filthy pretty.much whole time we there and the outdoor tables by kitchen were sticky. A good water blast of tables once every few days and a good clean of kitchen once a day would ensure these not so bad. (5) there were some ppl wandering around camp one night very late(after 11pm). They parked up beside pool ax from reception & were watching our site for a while, then went for walk around by the toilet/ kitchen block. That was unnerving as they were NOT guests. Overall the camp ground & managers are lovely- it's accessable to great spots, and nice toilet shower blocks.despite the disappointments above I would still recommend this place as it has a great feel & With a couple of tweaks this place will be 5 star the whole way!

Sometimes it's not what you buy, but it's more about the experience. A recent awesome experience I had Ngapae Holiday Park is almost beyond words. The local Iwi (Maori tribe) own and manage the holiday park. Due to Covid the park was empty except for a handful of long-term residents and me! Because I was a Te Araroa Trail walker the Iwi provide free food, mostly baked beans and spaghetti, which was most appreciated :). As Sandra escorted me to my room we walked through the restaurant and I met her husband and children, who were eating fish and chips. I commented how nice the smell was and enquired where I could buy some from. They told me the meal was purchased from a nearby town which was too far for me to walk. When we got to the room Sandra said they had finished all they wanted to eat and I was welcome to the remainder. A little embarrassed I declined saying I was really making some light conversation with her family, but secretly thought the idea of eating fish and chips appealing especially after consuming dried food for the past few days on the trail. However a few minutes later Sandra was at my door carrying a microwave with the Fish and chips inside a newspaper wrapper (a traditional way of eating fish and chips in New Zealand). That was the best fish and chips I ever tasted, mainly due to the caring and love side dish that come with it. Thanks again for the awesome experience. :)

We had a great camping trip at this holiday park for 4 days from New Years day. Great facilities, friendly staff and well priced. Would 10/10 come back again and would highly recommend! Great location, you felt far enough from the cities to feel relaxed but close enough to not be secluded, only 15mins from supermarkets. Also we were only a 5 minute walk to 90 mile beach where we enjoyed daily sunsets 🌅 as well as being able to watch the sunset from the camp site. Loved it! You get more modern facilities available on site along with a swimming pool than you would at other holiday parks. We’ll definitely be back!

I’ve been in New Zealand for 3 weeks now travelling from here and there to discover the country. I tried not to stay at the same place more than 2 nights tops in order to stick with my plans. I left Tokerau beach for the far north \ tip of New Zealand, checking campgrounds on the way on campermate. But looking at peoples comments, all were kind of the same : no free or no showers at all, dirty toilets, mosquito plague etc… I guess this is Vanlife adventure but I needed confort at this time.

On my way to the 90 miles beach, I saw Ngapae camp sign, not referred on campermate but I decide to see by myself how it’s like. I don’t regret my choice. I ended up staying 4 nights and would have been staying more if I wasn’t already late on my journey plans. You get free hot and unlimited showers (something I haven’t seen in ANY of the campgrounds I’ve been), free wifi, clean toilets and a quiet place to sleep (and at the time I was there (march) - no mosquitoes 😀). You also have a ping pong table, a basketball goal and a pool (maybe even other things but I didn’t look more into it)

But what made me stay longer is something else : You feel like being part of family. Staff is lovely and helpful, long stay campers (you can say are regulars) helped me more than once too (even gave a fish they just caught for my diner 😍). I felt safe to leave my belongings charging without having to be next to it.

And last but not least, you are 5min walking away from the 90 miles beach where literally nobody was there everytime I went. The view was magic I thought I was dreaming.

Anyway thanks for reading my long review (don’t think I’ve ever gave one before ?) and thanks to everybody at Ngapae, hopefully see you...
