Raetea North Side Camping Area — Hotel in Te Hiku Community

Rocked up late arvo to camp the night after nearby doc sites and campgrounds were full . Ran into a bunch of noisy/disrepectful locals who ruined the experience for us . The gate was locked across the foward with other locals camping on the other side . Not impressed! Sand flys are there . Nice spot to stay how ever fresh water river almost drinkable . Strongly reccemend...

Great spot, the main area is closed during winter but the carpark is still available for camping. The toilet is 2 clean long drops with toilet paper, soap and water about 500m away from the carpark through a shallow river crossing so be prepared. Freedom Campingspot with lots of space and two parts. One part is over a river, when we were there very easy to cross over but can vary with rain.
