The domain is very basic, just an open field or two really. Nice and quiet. The toilet was fine. Clean and reasonably smell free. There is a water tap, but when we went there was no water flowing. I advise taking your own water. We later found a tap in the toilet up at the Blue Lakes entrance. You do need to boil the water out of the taps. The great folk at the Vulcan Pub gave us access to their taps..as well as hot food and cold wine..strongly recommend going there...Cheers guys. Loads of rabbits at night. Read moreVery fine camping spot, well maintained and clean facilities. Nightly rate is a $5 donation. Do bring your own drinking water as the town supply is not drinkable unless boiled first. Locals are caring for the place and there's signs of ongoing improvements like recent plantings of natives to enhance the area. Just a short walk or drive to the township where there are many gorgeous old buildings and a lovely hotel for refreshments and meals. The lake of course is stunning and clean! Has to be one of the last few places in NZ still in it's natural state and unexploited. ...
Read moreThis campsite is a hidden gem in this area of Central Otago. Great spot to hole up and explore the region. Nice and flat, lots of space to get your own patch even if it is 'busy' which it never really is outside of peak summer time periods.|FYI...this is a very exposed campsite. The wind can howl down the valley and be quite severe, even when you least expect it. |Bathroom facilities are a long drop, usually pretty clean and tidy. Is quite a distance from some spots in the domain so be prepared...
